1973 NAIA Soccer Championship
The 1973 NAIA Soccer Championship was the 15th annual tournament held by the NAIA to determine the national champion of men's college soccer among its members in the United States. Quincy (IL) defeated Rockhurst in the final, 3–0, to claim the Hawks' fourth NAIA national title. The final was played in Florissant, Missouri. Qualification For the fourth year, the tournament field remained fixed at eight teams. Unlike the previous three years, however, additional fifth- and seventh-place finals were not contested. The NAIA Men's Soccer Championship is the annual tournament to determine the national champions of NAIA men's collegiate soccer in the United States and Canada. It has been held annually since 1959. The most successful program is Quincy (IL), with 11 NAIA national titles. The current champion is Bethel (IN), which won its first men's national title in 2022. 1973 NCAA Division II Soccer Championship
The 1973 NCAA Division II soccer tournament was the second annual tournament held by the NCAA to determine the top men's Division II college soccer program in the United States. It was also the first to be branded as the "Division II" tournament, following the NCAA splitting its former College Division to create Divisions II and III. However, this tournament continued to feature D-III schools, as the NCAA did not establish a separate D-III championship until 1974. UMSL defeated Cal State Fullerton in the final match, 3–0, to win their first national title. The final was played in Springfield, Massachusetts at Springfield College on December 8, 1973. The 1973 NCAA Division I soccer tournament was the 15th annual tournament organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the national champion of men's college soccer among its Division I members in the United States. Beginning with this season, the NCAA changed its classification system, and the former ''University Division'' was rebranded as Division I. The final match was played at the Miami Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida on January 4. Saint Louis won their tenth national title, and second consecutive, by defeating UCLA in the championship game, 2–1 after one overtime period. The 1968 NAIA Soccer Championship was the tenth annual tournament held by the NAIA to determine the national champion of men's college soccer among its members in the United States. Davis & Elkins defeated hosts and two-time defending champions Quincy (IL) in the final, 2–1 after five overtime periods, to claim the Senators' first NAIA national title. This was the first NAIA national championship game to go into extra time. The final was again played at Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois. Qualification The tournament field expanded for the first time in 1968, increasing from four to eight. The tournament format, meanwhile, remained single-elimination format, but added additional matches to determine the teams in fifth to eighth place, increasing the number of matches from 4 to 12. Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens
Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens is the joint athletics program for Pomona College and Pitzer College, two of the Claremont Colleges. It competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) of the NCAA Division III. Its mascot is Cecil the Sagehen. Its primary rival is the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags and Athenas, the joint team of the three other undergraduate Claremont Colleges. Sports There are 11 women's and 10 men's teams. The NJIT Highlanders, formerly the New Jersey Tech Highlanders, are the varsity sport members of the Division I NCAA-affiliated sports teams of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). There are ten men's teams, seven women's teams, and three club teams along with a variety of intramural teams. The school's primary conference is the America East Conference. In November 2017 NJIT opened the Wellness and Events Center (WEC) which incorporates upgraded facilities for most Division 1 sports including a 3,500-seat arena for Basketball and Volleyball. Behind the Highlander name and logo NJIT is located in an area of Newark presently known as University Heights, and formerly known as the Newark Highlands.
