1973 Buffalo Bills Season
The 1973 Buffalo Bills season was the 14th season for the team and their 4th season in the National Football League (NFL). The Bills finished in 2nd place in the AFC East division and finished the 1973 NFL season with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses, the team's first winning record since 1966. Head coach Lou Saban began the second season of his second tenure with the Bills. Saban had previously led the team to the 1964 and 1965 AFL championships. It was the first season that the team played in Rich Stadium (now "Highmark Stadium") after thirteen years playing at War Memorial Stadium ("The Rockpile"). The Bills were returning from 1–13 and 4–9–1 records in 1971 and 1972, respectively. Incumbent starting quarterback Dennis Shaw found himself in a battle with rookie Joe Ferguson for the starting job. The season was defined by O. J. Simpson. The Dispatch (Lexington)
''The Dispatch'' is an American, English language daily newspaper published in Lexington, North Carolina. The newspaper is published Tuesday through Saturday with no Sunday or Monday editions. History ''The Dispatch'' began publication in 1902, succeeding the weekly ''Davidson Dispatch'' (1882–1902), founded by T.B. Eldridge. The paper increased to semi-weekly publication in 1919 and to a six-day-a-week schedule on September 6, 1948. On September 1, 2008 the publication eliminated its Monday edition and was published only five days. The New York Times Company acquired ''The Dispatch'' in 1973, and the Halifax Media Group acquired it on January 6, 2012. In 2015, Halifax was acquired by New Media Investment Group. In November of 2022 Paxton Media Group acquired The Dispatch and five other North Carolina newspapers from Gannett Co., Inc. Estimated average circulation of ''The Dispatch'' in 2013 was 6,892. Jim Braxton
James "Bubby" Robert Braxton (May 23, 1949 – July 28, 1986) was a professional American football fullback in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. Collegiate career Jim Braxton started playing college football at West Virginia University in 1967 and was the team's second leading rusher (272 yards) in his sophomore season in 1968. In his junior season, he rushed for a team best 843 yards and helped the team become Peach Bowl champions. He also was talented as a kicker. As a senior, he converted to tight end, catching 27 passes for 565 yards and eight touchdowns and that was good enough for first-team All-American honors. Professional career Drafted in the third round by the Buffalo Bills in the 1971 NFL Draft, he was needed not as the leading rusher, but the blocking weapon for star running back O. J. Simpson.
