1973 Allan Cup
The 1973 Allan Cup was the Canadian senior ice hockey championship for the 1972–73 senior "A" season. The event was hosted by the Orillia Terriers and Orillia, Ontario. The 1973 playoff marked the 65th time that the Allan Cup has been awarded. Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. The trustees of the Stanley Cup decided that the Cup would be awarded to the professional ice champion, meaning there was no corresponding trophy for the amateur championship of Canada. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior AAA teams in Canada compete annually for the Allan Cup. History From the beginning of the 1900s until the 1970s, Senior hockey was immensely popular across Canada, particularly in rural towns. Orillia Terriers (senior/intermediate Hockey)
The Orillia Terriers were a Canadian senior ice hockey team from Orillia, Ontario, Canada that competed in the OHA Senior A from 1966 to 1979, and represented in the Central Ontario Junior B Hockey League from 1979 to 1981 ( Intermediate A) by the Orillia Travelways, and for the 1981-82 season by the Orillia Terriers in the Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The Terriers are not known to be connected with the Couchiching Terriers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, although the junior club was known as the Orillia Terriers from 1989 to 1997. History The team originated as the Orillia Pepsis in 1966, but changed their name to the Terriers in 1969. The Terriers won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as the OHA Senior A League champions in 1970 and 1973. Orillia
Orillia is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is in Simcoe County between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Although it is geographically located within Simcoe County, the city is a single-tier municipality. It is part of the Huronia region of Central Ontario. The population in 2021 was 33,411. It was incorporated as a village in 1867, but the history of what is today the City of Orillia dates back at least several thousand years.
