Peruvian Segunda División
The Liga 2 (Ligue 2) of Peru is the second-highest division in the Peruvian football league system. It is a professional and promotional division organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. After years of changing numbers of clubs, as of 2021 the league includes 12 clubs. History The format of the Second Division has changed over the years. For decades after it was first formed in 1936, only clubs from the Lima Region, Department of Lima participated in the annual tournament. The winner was promoted to the ''Primera Division Peruana'' (First Division), the professional league. *1988-1990, the winner was promoted to the Regional Metropolitan League (''Torneo Metropolitano Regional''). *1991, there was no promotion because the First Division was undergoing major changes. *1992, the format changed again. Ciclista Lima
Ciclista Lima Association is a Peruvian football club, playing in the city of Lima. It is the second oldest club in Peru. The club was founded 1896 and plays in the Copa Perú, which is the third division of the Peruvian league. History The club was the 1944, 1946, 1949, and 1993 Segunda División Peruana champion. The club played at the highest level of Peruvian football on several occasions since 1927. However, they only played Torneo Descentralizado on three occasions, from 1994 Torneo Descentralizado until 1996 Torneo Descentralizado when the club was relegated to the Peruvian Segunda División. 1972 Torneo Descentralizado
The 1972 Torneo Descentralizado, the top category of Peruvian football, was played by 16 teams. The season was divided into 3 stages. The first stage was contested in two groups: Metropolitan (teams from Lima and Callao) and Regional (teams from the rest of the country); each group winner qualified for the Championship Group. The second stage was the Descentralised (league tournament); the top 4 qualified for the Championship Group and the bottom 2 were relegated. Championship Group was contested by 6 teams in Lima; neither team carried their previous records. The national champion was Sporting Cristal. Estadio Alberto Gallardo
Estadio Alberto Gallardo is a football stadium in the Rimac District of Lima, Peru, named after Alberto Gallardo, a former Peruvian football player and manager who played several years for Sporting Cristal. It is the home of football club Sporting Cristal. The stadium was built in the 1960s along the Rímac River for local football use and originally named Estadio San Martín de Porres. Many clubs playing in the Primera División, Segunda División, and district leagues of San Martín de Porres were among the many tenants the stadium had. In 1995, Sporting Cristal—one of the regular first division tenants of the stadium—decided to lease the venue from the Instituto Peruano del Deporte for 17 years.
