1971 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1971 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 81st staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Roscrea were the defending champions. Moyne-Templetuohy won the championship after a 2–08 to 0–06 defeat of Roscrea in the final at Semple Stadium. It remains their only championship title. Jim Fogarty (hurler)
James Fogarty (born 1950) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Moyne–Templetuohy and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Fogarty first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Moyne–Templetuohy. He progressed onto the club's senior team and captained the side to the Tippearry SHC title in 1971. Fogarty first appeared on the inter-county scene for Tipperary at minor and under-21 levels, however, his underage career ended without success as Cork was the dominant team at the time. Fogarty joined the senior team in 1969 and was a substitute when Tipperary beat Kilkenny by 5-17 to 5-14 in the 1971 All-Ireland final. He also lined out with Munster in the Railway Cup. Roscrea GAA
Roscrea () is a market town in County Tipperary, Ireland, which in 2016 had a population of 5,446. Roscrea is one of the oldest towns in Ireland, having developed around the 7th century monastery of Saint Crónán of Roscrea, parts of which remain preserved today. Roscrea is a designated ''Irish Heritage Town'' due to the extent of important historical buildings that are preserved in the town. Amongst the most notable buildings of interest are the 13th century Roscrea Castle and Damer House on Castle Street. Within the town are the remains of the ancient Romanesque doorway and gable-end of St Cronan's church. The Round Tower and the High cross of the ancient monastery are also located nearby. Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the FBD Insurance Tipperary County Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1887 for the top hurling teams in the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Semple Stadium in October. The prize for the winning team is the Dan Breen Cup. Initially played as a knock-out competition on a divisional basis, the championship currently features a group stage followed by a knock-out stage. The Tipperary County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The 1970 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 80th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Roscrea were the defending champions. On 4 October 1970, Roscrea won the championship after a 3–11 to 2–12 defeat of Thurles Sarsfields in the final at Thurles Sportsfield. The Semple Stadium is the home of hurling and Gaelic football for Tipperary GAA and for the province of Munster. Located in Thurles, County Tipperary, it is the second largest GAA stadium in Ireland (after Croke Park), with a capacity of 45,690.
