1971 Intercontinental Cup
The 1971 Intercontinental Cup was an association football tie held over two legs in December 1971 between the runners-up of the 1970–71 European Cup, Panathinaikos, replacing European Cup winners Ajax which declined to participate, and Nacional, winners of the 1971 Copa Libertadores. The first leg was held on 15 December 1971 at the Karaiskakis Stadium, home of Olympiacos, as Panathinaikos ground was deemed unsuitable. The match finished up as a 1–1 draw. The goals came from Totis Filakouris in the 48th minute and Luis Artime in the 50th minute. Julio Morales broke the leg of Yiannis Tomaras and was sent off. Estadio Centenario hosted the return leg 13 days later on 28 December 1971.Match report

The European/South American Cup, more commonly known as the Intercontinental Cup and from 1980 to 2004 as the Toyota European/South American Cup (abbreviated as Toyota Cup) for sponsorship reasons, was an international association football, football competition endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America), contested between representative clubs from these confederations (representatives of most developed continents in the football world), usually the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the South American Copa Libertadores. The Copa Libertadores 1971 was the 12th edition of the Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL's annual international club tournament. Nacional won the competition. Mitsos Dimitriou
Dimitrios "Mitsos" Dimitriou ( el, Μήτσος Δημητρίου, Δημήτρης Δημητρίου; 1948–2002) was a Greek football defender. Career Dimitriou played club football for Panathinaikos, appearing in 254 league matches in more than a decade with the club. Kostas Eleftherakis
Kostas Eleftherakis ( el, Κώστας Ελευθεράκης, born 18 July 1950) is a Greek former international football player who played as a midfielder. His nickname was ''"the Deer"'' ''( el, "το Ελάφι")''. Club career He started his career in 1964–65, playing for second division side Fostiras. He later joined Panathinaikos in 1968. At age 21 he played for Panathinaikos at 1971 European Cup Final in Wembley Stadium against Ajax Amsterdam. He scored 2 goals during that campaign to reach the final. Following that game, Real Madrid and Everton expressed interest in acquiring him. Real Madrid would offer an inconceivable (for the time) 35 million drachmas for Kostas Eleftherakis. Frangiskos Sourpis
Frangiskos Sourpis ( el, Φραγκίσκος Σούρπης; born 4 March 1943) is a former Greek footballer, centre-back for Panathinaikos from 1962 until 1973. Career Born in Kifisia, Sourpis was talented at the pole vault and volleyball, but chose to play football with Panathinaikos F.C. He partnered Takis Papoulidis in the centre of defence in the 4-3-3 formation that coach Stjepan Bobek used at Panathinaikos. Anthimos Kapsis
Anthimos Kapsis ( el, Άνθιμος Καψής; born 3 September 1950) is a Greek former International footballer who played as a sweeper. Career Born in Astypalaia, Kapsis' family moved to Keratsini when he was young. Kapsis played for the Panathinaikos F.C. from 1969 until 1984 and was a member of that team when it played in Wembley Stadium, located in London, England, in the 1971 European Cup Final. Panagiotis "Takis" Ikonomopoulos ( gr, Παναγιώτης "Τάκης" Οικονομόπουλος; born 19 October 1943) is a Greek former international football player who played as a goalkeeper. Julio César Morales Araújo, nicknamed ''Cascarilla'' (16 February 1945 – 14 February 2022) was a Uruguayan professional footballer who played as a striker. Luis Artime
Luis Artime (born 2 December 1938) is an Argentine former footballer, who played as a striker, and scored more than 1,000 goals during his career. His son Luis Fabián Artime is also a retired Argentine footballer who played in the 1990s. Club career Artime was born in Parque Civit in Mendoza Province. He had a remarkably successful career in club football, he was top scorer four times in the Argentine league, three times in the Uruguayan league and once in the Copa Libertadores. Totis Filakouris
Panagiotis "Totis" Filakouris (born 1 March 1947) is a Greek former footballer who played as a forward. Fylakouris played for Panathinaikos for ten years from 1965 until 1975 and was a member of the team that played in the final of the European Cup of Champions in 1971 at Wembley Stadium.
