1970 Cork Senior Football Championship
The 1970 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 82nd staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place on 25 January 1970. The championship began on 12 April 1970 and ended on 18 October 1970. University College Cork entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St. Nicholas' in a first round replay. The final was played on 18 October 1970 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork between Muskerry and Nemo Rangers in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Muskerry won the match by 3-10 to 4-06 to claim their first ever championship title. It remains their only championship title. Beara GAA is a division of Cork GAA, and is responsible for organizing Gaelic Athletic Association games in the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork County Board. It organizes competitions for the clubs within the division, from Under 12 up to the adult level. The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. Currently, the following clubs are part of the Beara division - Castletownbere, Adrigole, Urhan, Garnish, Bere Island and Glengarriff. Imokilly GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling division in the east of Cork, Ireland. The division includes towns such as Midleton, Cobh, and Youghal. Cloughduv GAA
Cloughduv GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Cloughduv in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Muskerry division of Cork GAA. The club fields hurling team only. There are two Gaelic football clubs in the parish (Kilmurry parish) - Canovee and Kilmurry - and there is often an overlap of players between the different clubs. History Hurling in the area pre-dates the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Thurles in 1884; when the Cork County Board was inaugurated in 1886, 21 clubs attended including Ryecourt GAA represented by Michael J Keane. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to Cloch Dubh. Success was not long in arriving, culminating in 1912 in a great victory in the County Senior Beamish Shield. Sarsfields GAA (Cork)
Sarsfields GAA is a hurling club is based in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of County Cork. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. They have won six County Championships, 1951, 1957, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. They have also won three Minor County Championships, 2007, 2008 and 2014. The club derives its name for the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan. County Championship history While the club reached a number of championship semi-finals prior to 1936, it wasn't until the 1936 Cork Senior Hurling Championship before the club contested their first final. Mardyke (UCC)
The Mardyke, also referred as the Mardyke Sports Ground, is the sport and fitness facilities used by sports team representing University College Cork, the general student body, and members of the public. It is based in the Cork district of Mardyke. UCC acquired the grounds in 1911, and rented the main pitch to rugby, soccer, hockey and hurling clubs in the city for a 15% cut of the gate receipts. Outdoors, there are floodlit grass and all-weather pitches, used for soccer, rugby, Gaelic games, and hockey. Kayakers train in the adjacent North channel of the River Lee. There is a tartan track for athletics, where the Cork City Sports are held annually. The most notable performance came in the hammer throw on 3 July 1984, when Yuriy Sedykh and Sergey Litvinov broke the world record six times in one evening. Na Piarsaigh GAA
Na Piarsaigh are a hurling and Gaelic football club based in the north side of Cork City, Ireland. History Formation In 1943 a group of idealistic young men drawn mostly from the hurling nursery of North Mon laid the foundations of Cumann Iomana & Peile Na Piarsaigh. The group had its first formal meeting in the presbytery of the North Cathedral. The young men called upon one of their teachers, Donnacha Ó Murchú, for guidance and assistance. This led to him becoming the first ''Uachtarán'' [president] of the club, with Derry Terry serving as ''Runaí'' [secretary] and Paddy Sutton as ''Cisteoir'' [treasurer]. In choosing a name for the club the members sought one which would reflect their aims and ideals.
