1969 NAIA World Series
The 1969 NAIA World Series was the 13th annual tournament hosted by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to determine the national champion of baseball among its member colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The tournament was played at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri. William Carey (29-9) defeated La Verne (38-16) in the championship series, 5–3, to win the Crusaders' first NAIA World Series. As of 2024, this is the earliest NAIA baseball championship won by a school that remains at the NAIA level. La Verne pitcher Steve Barber was named tournament MVP. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. The Appalachian State Mountaineers baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, United States. The team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, which is part of NCAA Division I. 1969 NCAA University Division Baseball Tournament
The 1969 NCAA University Division baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1969 NCAA University Division baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its twenty-third year. Eight regional districts sent representatives to the College World Series with preliminary rounds within each district serving to determine each representative. These events would later become known as regionals. Each district had its own format for selecting teams, resulting in 23 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. The Emporia State Hornets baseball team represents Emporia State University in NCAA Division II college baseball. The team participates in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Taylor Trojans are the athletic program at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. They compete in the Crossroads League of the NAIA. Silent Night Every year the Friday before final exams, Taylor University has the Silent Night Men's Basketball game. In it, students remain quiet until the tenth point is scored and then erupt in cheering. In the late moments of the game, " Silent Night" is sung. A former assistant coach came up with the idea in the late 80s and it was a packed event by the mid-to-late 1990s. The Grand Canyon Antelopes baseball team represents Grand Canyon University, which is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The Antelopes, also known as the Lopes, are an NCAA Division I college baseball program competing in the Western Athletic Conference. They were in Division I from 1991 to 1998, the final four seasons with the Western Athletic Conference, and returned in 2014 with the WAC. 2024 NAIA Baseball Tournament
The 2024 NAIA baseball tournament was the 67th edition of the NAIA baseball championship. The 46-team tournament began on May 13 with Opening Round games across ten different sites and concluded with the 2024 NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho that began on May 24 and ended on May 31. After losing their first game of the World Series, Hope International (CA) rattled off five straight victories capped off by defeating Tennessee Wesleyan 14–6 in the championship game for their first title in program history. The 46 participating teams were selected from 191 eligible NAIA teams. The World Series host and 29 teams were awarded automatic bids as either champions and/or runners-up of their conferences, and 16 teams were selected at-large by the National Selection Committee.
