1968 Memorial Cup
The 1968 Memorial Cup was the 50th annual Memorial Cup competition, organized by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) to determine the champion of junior A ice hockey. The George Richardson Memorial Trophy champions Niagara Falls Flyers of the Ontario Hockey Association in Eastern Canada competed against the Abbott Cup champions Estevan Bruins of the Western Canada Junior Hockey League in Western Canada. In a best-of-seven series, held at the Niagara Falls Memorial Arena in Niagara Falls, Ontario and at the Montreal Forum in Montreal, Quebec, Niagara Falls won their 2nd Memorial Cup, defeating Estevan 4 games to 1. CAHA vice-president Lloyd Pollock oversaw the schedule, and used the Montreal Forum to increase profits for CAHA, since Maple Leaf Gardens was not available and due to the smaller size of the Niagara Falls Memorial Arena. Niagara Falls Flyers
The Niagara Falls Flyers were two junior ice hockey franchises that played in the top tier in the Ontario Hockey Association. The first, a Junior "A" team existed from 1960 until 1972, and the second in Tier I Junior "A" from 1976 until 1982. Both teams were owned by the Emms Family, and were relocated to Niagara Falls from another city. The Niagara Falls Memorial Arena was home ice to both teams. History The first Flyers team relocated to Niagara Falls from Barrie in 1960. The team was affiliated with the Boston Bruins of the NHL. The Flyers appeared in three Memorial Cups in the 1960s, winning in 1965 and 1968. 1963 Memorial Cup Niagara Falls won the right to play for the Cup by defeating the Toronto Neil McNeil Maroons for the OHA championship, and the Espanola Eagles to win the George Richardson Memorial Trophy as eastern Canadian representatives. Richard "Rick" Thompson (born October 2, 1952) is a former Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 17th District since 2000. Donald Andrew Tannahill (born February 21, 1949, in Penetanguishene, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 222 games in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and 111 games in the National Hockey League (NHL). Brad Selwood
Bradley Wayne Selwood (born March 18, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and the former General Manager and head coach of the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. Selwood played junior ice hockey for the 1968 Memorial Cup champion Niagara Falls Flyers before a professional career. He played two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but shortly after was lured by the New England Whalers of the fledgling World Hockey Association. Selwood played 431 games in the WHA with the Whalers, the third highest total in the team's history. Selwood also played in the 1974 Summit Series for Team Canada against the Soviet Union. When the WHA merged with the NHL, he was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens, who still held his rights and who shortly thereafter traded him to the Los Angeles Kings. Philippe Louis Myre (born November 1, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Canadiens, Atlanta Flames, St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, Colorado Rockies and Buffalo Sabres.
