1967 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1967 European Amateur Team Championship took place 22–25 June at Circolo Golf Torino – La Mandria, 18 kilometres north of central Turin, Italy. It was the fifth men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Format All participating teams played one qualification round of stroke-play with up to six players, counted the five best scores for each team. The eight best teams formed flight A, in knock-out match-play over the next three days. The teams were seeded based on their position after the stroke play. Each of the four best placed teams were drawn to play the quarter-final against one of the teams in the flight placed in the next four positions. In each match between two nation teams, two 18-hole foursome games and five 18-hole single games were played. Teams were allowed to switch players during the team matches, selecting other players in to the afternoon single games after the morning foursome games. Rodney Foster
Rodney Foster (born 13 October 1941) is an English amateur golfer. He was one of the leading British amateurs of the 1960s and early 1970s. He represented Great Britain and Ireland in five successive Walker Cup matches from 1965 to 1973 and twice in the Eisenhower Trophy, in 1964 and 1970. Foster was relatively unknown when he won the 1964 Berkshire Trophy with a score of 281, two ahead of Michael Attenborough. He was also runner-up in the English Amateur the same year, losing by 1 hole in the 36-hole final to David Marsh. His good performances gained him a place in the four-man Great Britain and Ireland team for the 1964 Eisenhower Trophy. The team led throughout and finished two strokes ahead of Canada. Ronnie Shade
Ronald David Bell Mitchell Shade, MBE (18 October 1938 – 10 September 1986) was a Scottish professional golfer. Life and career Shade was born in Edinburgh and grew up playing golf at Duddingston Golf Club in that city. He enjoyed unrivalled success as an amateur player in the 1960s, winning five consecutive Scottish Amateur Championships from 1963 to 1967 (Shade had also lost in the final in 1962). In 1966, he also finished as leading individual player at the Eisenhower Trophy, as leading amateur in The Open Championship, and reached the final of the British Amateur Championship, losing to Bobby Cole. He represented Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup on four occasions (1961 to 1967 inclusive), and was three times winner of the English Amateur Open Strokeplay Championship (the Brabazon Trophy). Alexander Cramond "Sandy" Saddler (born August 1935) is a Scottish amateur golfer. Saddler represented Britain 14 times and Scotland 22 times between 1959 and 1967. He represented Great Britain three times in the Walker Cup (1963, 1965, 1967) and was the non-playing captain of the team in 1977. Charles Wilson Green (2 August 1932 – 28 January 2013) was a Scottish amateur golfer. He was one of the leading British amateurs of his generation. As an individual, he won the Scottish Amateur three times, the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Champion twice and the Lytham Trophy twice. Gaëtan Mourgue d'Algue (born 1 June 1939) is a French golfer. He was a resident of Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, west of Paris, France, who helped popularize the then little played sport of golf in the country during the early 1960s.
