1966 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 1966 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place in Frankfurt, West Germany from 29 August to 4 September 1966. Eleven events were contested, 9 for men (3 for professionals, 6 for amateurs) and 2 for women. Ehrenfried Rudolph
Ehrenfried Rudolph (born 14 August 1935) is a retired German cyclist who was active between 1957 and 1973. He won three medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1966, 1968 and 1970, including a gold medal in 1970. As a road cyclist he competed in 69 six-day races, with the best result of fourth place. Jiří Daler (born 8 March 1940) is a retired cyclist from Czechoslovakia. His sporting career began with Dukla Brno. As an amateur track cyclist he competed at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics in five events in total. In the 4000 m individual pursuit, he won a gold medal in 1964 and finished in 14th place in 1968; in both Games he finished fifth in the team pursuit. Between 1964 and 1967 he won one silver and four bronze medals in the individual and team pursuit events at the world championships. In 1967, he also set two world records, in the 4000 m and 5000 m sprint. Tiemen Groen (6 July 1946 – 26 October 2021) was a Dutch cyclist who won four consecutive world titles in the 4 km individual pursuit in 1964–1967; His sporting career began with DTS Zaandam. Omar Phakadze
Omar Pkhakadze ( ka, ომარ ფხაკაძე, russian: Омар Пхакадзе; 12 August 1944 – 21 May 1993) was a Georgian sprint cyclist. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1964, 1968, and 1972 Olympics and finished in fourth and third place in 1968 and 1972, respectively, winning the first Soviet Olympic medal in sprint cycling. In 1965 he also became the first Soviet sprinter to win a world title; he finished third in 1966 and second in 1969. During his career he won 10 national titles – in 1963, 1964 and 1966–1973. He was born in a poor family; his father was handicapped in war and died when Phakadze was 15, leaving his wife with four children. The same year, Phakadze started training in cycling. He retired after the 1972 Olympics and worked as a cycling coach, training the Soviet team between 1978 and 1984 and becoming the first president of the Georgian Cycling Federation. Daniel Morelon (born 24 July 1944) is a retired French racing cyclist who was active between 1963 and 1980. He is a triple Olympic champion, eight times world champion, and a knight of the Legion d'Honneur. Morelon was a police officer before becoming a cycling coach.
