The 1966 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship was the first edition of the World Championship. The winner was Gabdrakhman Kadyrov of the Soviet Union. Kadyrov had previously won the 1964 European Ice Speedway Championship, the predecessor to this competition. Individual Ice Speedway World Championship
The Individual Ice Speedway World Championship is an Ice speedway championship held annually to determine an individual World Champion. History The first Championships were held in 1966. A European Championship was held for the two years preceding the World Championships.The event has been dominated by the Soviet Union/Russia, who have won all but seven of the World Championship titles since 1966. Sweden has won five times, Czechoslovakia twice and Finland once. Medalists In 2021 and 2022 Russian athletes competed as neutral competitors using the designation MFR (Motorcycle Federation of Russia), as the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a ban on Russia competing at World Championships. The ban was implemented by the World Anti-Doping Agency in response to state-sponsored doping program of Russian athletes. Leif Enecrona (born 5 March 1940 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider who reached the finals of the Speedway World Championship three times.Bamford, R. & Shailes, G. Mieczysław Połukard
Mieczysław Połukard (1930 in Warsaw, Poland – 26 October 1985 in Bydgoszcz, Poland) was a Polish motorcycle speedway rider and coach, the first Polish rider to ride in the Individual World Championship Final in 1959 and won the World Team Cup in 1961. Career He began his racing career with Sparta Wrocław. In 1955 he moved to Polonia Bydgoszcz. He was the first Polish rider to ride in the Individual World Championship Final (1959) where he finished 12th with 5 points. He also represented Poland in the World Team Cup three times, in 1960 (4th place), 1961 (gold medal) and 1962 (bronze medal). He was Individual Polish Champion once in 1954. He also rode in Golden Helmet Finals, but he never finished high enough to win a medal. Accident In 1968 he decided to retire. Peter John Knott (8 August 1956 – 29 October 2015) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the Australian House of Representatives. He represented Division of Gilmore, Gilmore from 1993 to 1996 for the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Knott was a librarian and teacher before entering Parliament. Gabdrakhman Kadyrov
Gabdrakhman Kadyrov (1941-1993) was an international speedway rider from the Soviet Union. His nationality was described as being a Tatar and his mother came from Bashkortostan but he was born in Shatura. Speedway career Kadyrov was one of the all-time great Ice Speedway riders. He won the inaugural Individual Ice Speedway World Championship in 1966 and went on to be the champion of the world six times in total, after winning again in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1973. He won a silver medal at the Speedway World Team Cup in the 1967 Speedway World Team Cup. He was known as Gab and earned the nickname 'The Beatle' by his fellow Soviet riders because of his hair cut resembling The Beatles at the time. He was a metal craftsman by trade.
