1966 Defiance Yellow Jackets Football Team
The 1966 Defiance Yellow Jackets football team was an American football team that represented Defiance College as a member of the Mid-Ohio Conference (MOC) during the 1966 NAIA football season. In their third year under head coach Kirk Mee, the Yellow Jackets compiled a 9–0 record (2–0 against conference opponents), won the MOC championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 218 to 41. At the end of the season, Kirk Mee was voted coach of the year in the NAIA's District 22. Quarterback George Smart, halfback Ben Davis, and linebacker Jose Arellano were named to the all-NAIA, District 22, football team. Defiance also placed 12 players on the 1966 all-MOC football team. Mid-Ohio Conference
The American Mideast Conference (AMC) was an affiliate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics that included eight member institutions in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts. Founded in 1949, it was known as the Mid-Ohio League, and named the Mid-Ohio Conference from 1962 until 1998, when it adopted its final moniker. The name change was the first step in a multi-phase expansion that extended the conference into states beyond Ohio before the league was eventually disbanded in 2012. Upland (pronounced as "up-land") is a town in Jefferson Township, Grant County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,845 at the 2010 census. It is most notable for being the home of Taylor University, a Christian college with 2,103 students, as of 2016. History Most of the land that is now part of Upland was purchased by John Oswalt in the 1830s. He was a speculator, and believed that a canal connecting Indianapolis and Fort Wayne might pass through the area. The town was formed in the late 1860s by Jacob Bugher, who planned for it to be a depot point on the Indiana Central Railroad. Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) is a public community college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. History Grand Rapids Junior College was established on September 21, 1914, after University of Michigan faculty passed a resolution encouraging the establishment of junior colleges in Michigan. Kirk Mee (born March 5, 1939) is a former American football and baseball player and coach. He was the head football coach at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio from 1964 to 1966 and Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana from 1972 to 1973, compiling a career college football coaching record of 21–22–1. The 1953 Defiance Yellow Jackets football team was an American football team that represented Defiance College as a member of the Mid-Ohio League (MOL) during the 1953 college football season. In their third year under head coach Vic Rowen, the Yellow Jackets compiled an 8–0 record (4–0 against conference opponents), won the MOL championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 163 to 59. Defiance was the only unbeaten and untied football team in Ohio during the 1953 season. It was the first perfect season in Defiance football history.
