1966 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Team
The 1966 Arkansas Razorbacks football team represented the University of Arkansas in the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1966 NCAA University Division football season. In their ninth year under head coach Frank Broyles, the Razorbacks compiled an 8–2 record (5–2 against SWC opponents), finished in a tie for second place in the SWC, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 218 to 73. Arkansas defensive tackle Loyd Phillips and defensive back Martine Bercher were selected as first-team players on the 1965 College Football All-America Team. Phillips finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting and won the Outland Trophy, awarded to the best interior lineman in the land. Southwest Conference
The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas. For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas: Baylor University, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin.
