1964 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1964 was the 9th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song "Dansevise" by Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR), the contest was held at Tivolis Koncertsal on 21 March 1964, and was hosted by Danish TV presenter Lotte Wæver. Sixteen countries participated in the contest. made its debut this year, while decided not to enter. The winner of the contest was with the song "Non ho l'età", performed by Gigliola Cinquetti, written by Nicola Salerno and composed by Mario Panzeri. Lotte Wæver
Lotte Wæver (born 17 February 1942) is a Danish former actress and television presenter. She is best known for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in . Career Television During her time in university, Wæver worked as one of the first female continuity announcers in Danmarks Radio (DR). She is best known for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen in 1964, a position for which she says she was chosen over her peers because of her willingness to do it. The contest was famously overshadowed by a political protest from a man who trespassed onto the stage holding a banner reading "Boycott Franco and Salazar". In an interview in 2001, Wæver revealed that while she was visibly shaken by the protester, the incident did not affect her in the slightest because, as the presenter of the contest, when the light above the camera was on, her attention was focused on the camera. Dolf Van Der Linden
David Gijsbert van der Linden (22 June 1915 – 30 January 1999), known as Dolf van der Linden, was a Dutch conductor of popular music with a reputation which extended beyond the borders of the Netherlands. Biography David Gijsbert van der Linden, the son of a salesman of musical instruments, was born in Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam. Before World War II, he played in some different bands as a pianist and tried his hand at arranging music for these bands. His colleagues started calling him "Dolf", because he reminded them of a former colleague with that name. In 1945, he was asked by Dutch authorities who had arrived back from their exile in London to form an orchestra for light music. Picking musicians he knew from all over the Netherlands, he thus managed to create the Metropole Orchestra. Jacques Denjean
Jacques Denjean (25 May 1929 – 21 December 1995) was a French composer and arranger, active in the 1960s and 1970s. He worked with artists such as Dionne Warwick, Françoise Hardy, Nana Mouskouri, Johnny Hallyday, Barış Manço, Maria del Mar Bonet and Guy Béart, chiefly as an arranger. Denjean was also a member of the French vocal group, Les Double Six. Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. Anita Traversi
Anita Traversi (25 July 1937 – 25 September 1991) was a Swiss singer, best known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1960 and 1964. Early career Born in Giubiasco, Traversi was encouraged by her father, a musician, and started singing with an orchestra in the mid-1950s, including with the orchestra of the Italian language Swiss radio channel. In 1956, she took part in the Swiss selection for the first Eurovision Song Contest, but "Bandanelle Ticinese" was not chosen. That year she was part of the Quintetta Radiosa the backingvocals for Eurovision winner Lys Assia. In 1959, Traversi obtained a recording contract in Italy, and went on to record a number of songs with Adriano Celentano, including the top 10 hit "Piccola". Los TNT
Los TNT () were an Italian-Uruguayan rock 'n' roll band, popular in the 1960s. The band consisted of two brothers and a sister from Udine, Italy: Edelweiss "Tim" Croatto (born 1936), Hermes "Tony" Croatto (1939 - 2005), and Argentina "Nelly" Croatto (born 1941). The acronym and word play TNT comes from their nicknames. The family emigrated to La Paz, Uruguay in 1946, and in 1953 they moved to Montevideo, where they started to sing. In 1959 they moved to Buenos Aires, and they were discovered and hired by Argentine record label RCA Victor in 1960.
