1963–64 FC Basel Season
The 1963–64 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 70th season in their existence. It was their 18th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion in the 1945–46 season. They played their home games either in their old Landhof Stadium or in their new St. Jakob Stadium. Lucien Schmidlin was club chairman for the second year running. Overview Pre-season Jiří Sobotka continued his job as club manager, it was his third consecutive year as manager. Basel played a total of 55 games this season. Of these 26 were in the domestic league, three were in the Swiss Cup, two in the 1963–64 European Cup Winners' Cup, three in the Cup of the Alps and 21 were friendly matches. Of these 21 test games 12 were won, five drawn and four were lost. Roberto Frigerio scored 19 goals in 15 test games. Four alone in the game against FC Laufen and a hat-trick against Lugano. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Walter Löffel
Walter Löffel (born 20 June 1936) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s as midfielder. Löffel first played for Grenchen from 1955 to 1960. In 1959 he was part of the Grenchen team that won the Swiss Cup against Servette 1–0 in the final. A year later they reached the final again, but this time they lost against Luzern. For the 1962–63 season Löffel moved on to play for FC Moutier in the second highest tier of Swiss football. Löffel joined FC Basel's first team at the end of their 1962–63 season under manager Jiří Sobotka. In this season he played in only one game. This was the Cup of the Alps match on 19 June 1963 as Basel drew 1–1 with Grasshopper Club. 1964–65 European Cup
The 1964–65 European Cup, the 10th season of the football club tournament, was won by Internazionale for the second time in row, in a final match against two-time former champions Benfica, making it three consecutive titles for Italy (Milan had won it in 1962–63). Iceland entered its champion for the first time this season, while Cyprus did not enter this time around. Peter Füri
Peter Füri (9 October 1937 – 11 May 2015) was a Swiss football player and manager, who played during the 1950s and 1960s. He died on 11 May 2015 at his home in Muttenz due to heart failure. Füri was born and brought up in Kleinbasel a quarter of Basel on the right hand side of the Rhine. He started his football at the small local club FC St. Clara and later joined the youth teams of FC Basel. During his active career Füri first played as a striker for FC Concordia Basel and later as a defender for FC La Chaux-de-Fonds and FC Basel. Füri joined Basel's first team for their 1961–62 season under trainer Jiří Sobotka. He played his domestic league debut for his new club in the away game on 5 November 1961 as Basel were beaten 0–1 by Young Fellows Zürich. Bruno Michaud
Bruno Michaud (14 October 1935 — 1 November 1997) was a Swiss footballer and manager who played as a defender mainly for FC Basel and the Swiss national football team. Club career Michaud started his football in the youth teams of Basel. He was brought up to the first team as Béla Sárosi was coach. He transferred for one and a half years to FC Lausanne-Sport, but returned for the second half of the 1959–60 season after Jenő Vincze became Basel's new coach. He played for Basel for thirteen seasons and won the Swiss Cup twice and the championship three times under coaches Georges Sobotka and Helmut Benthaus. Michaud's first Cup win was in 1962–63 and the first championship title was achieved in Basel's 1966–67 season. In that same season Michaud also won the double with Basel.
