1963 Speedway World Team Cup was the fourth edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place in Vienna, Austria. The World Champion title was won by Sweden (37 pts) who beat Czechoslovakia (27 pts), Great Britain (25 pts) and Poland (7 pts). Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985 each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. In 1987, the three meeting system was used again, but this time the aggregate points scored by the individual riders were added together to determine the champion. 1988 saw the championship revert to the original format. Reidar Eide (6 November 1940 – February 1999) was a Norwegian motorcycle speedway rider who was champion of Norway on five occasions. Björn Knutson commonly spelt Knutsson (born 27 April 1938 in Sweden) is a former motorcycle speedway rider who won the Speedway World Championship in 1965 and was a four-time winner of the World Team Cup. He gained the nickname 'The Crown Prince' for his speedway success. Career Knutson also won the Speedway Swedish Individual Championship in 1961 and 1963. He first rode in Great Britain after signing for Southampton Saints, during the 1959 Speedway National League. He topped the team's averages in 1960 and became one of the league's leading riders during the period. He outscored his teammate Barry Briggs at Southampton in both 1962 and 1963 at a time, when Briggs was in the middle of winning his four world championships. He finished his British league career with West Ham Hammers, at the end of the 1964 Speedway National League season.
