1962–63 Aston Villa F.C. Season
Aston Villa played the 1962–63 English football season in the Football League First Division. Winning the League Cup in 1961 had been the recent pinnacle for the club. Decline would see them finish in 15th place in 1963. In the Second City derby both teams won their home fixture. Aston is an area of inner Birmingham, England. Located immediately to the north-east of Central Birmingham, Aston constitutes a ward within the metropolitan authority. It is approximately 1.5 miles from Birmingham City Centre. History Aston was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as "Estone", having a mill, a priest and therefore probably a church, woodland and ploughland. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built in medieval times to replace an earlier church. The body of the church was rebuilt by J. A. Chatwin during the period 1879 to 1890; the 15th century tower and spire, which was partly rebuilt in 1776, being the only survivors of the medieval building. The ancient parish of Aston (known as Aston juxta Birmingham) was large. George Graham
George Graham (born 30 November 1944), nicknamed "Stroller", is a Scottish former football player and manager. In his successful playing career, he made 455 appearances in England's Football League as a midfielder or forward for Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace. Approximately half of his total appearances were for Arsenal, and he was part of the side that won the Football League Championship and FA Cup "double" in 1971. Graham also made 17 appearances for California Surf in the NASL in 1978. He then moved to the coaching staff at Crystal Palace, before joining former Palace manager Terry Venables as a coach at Queens Park Rangers. As a manager, he won numerous honours with Arsenal between 1987 and 1995, including two league titles (in 1989 and 1991), the 1993 FA Cup, two Football League Cups (in 1987 and 1993), as well as the 1994 European Cup Winners' Cup and also managed Millwall, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur. Cammie Fraser
John Cameron Fraser (born 24 May 1941) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a full back. He played 80 games for Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Football League and a further 72 for Aston Villa and Birmingham City in the English Football League. Playing career Fraser, born in Blackford, Perth and Kinross, began his football career as a youngster with Gairdoch United before joining Dunfermline Athletic in 1958 at the age of 17. Under Jock Stein's management at Dunfermline, he was a Scottish Cup-winner in 1961, defeating Celtic 2–0 in the replay after the original tie had finished goalless. Fraser, then 19, was the youngest player in the squad. This victory meant that Dunfermline qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup. Fraser played in the club's run to the quarter-final, in which they lost to Újpesti Dózsa 5–3 on aggregate, though he missed the first leg of the quarter-final due to influenza apparently brought on by a vaccination. ...
