1958–59 FC Basel Season
The 1958–59 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 65th season in their existence. It was their thirteenth consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's chairman for his 13th successive, but final, period. Düblin presided the club during the period July 1946 until Mai 1959 and in the club's history he is the most permanent president that the club has had to date. Overview The Austrian ex-international footballer Rudi Strittich was team manager for the second successive season. The club directors and the team management strengthened the team following the previous disappointing season. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. Fredy Kehrli
Fredy Kehrli (21 September 1935 – 13 October 2008) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played mainly in the position as defender, but also as midfielder. Kehrli first played for Biel-Bienne in the second tier of Swiss football. In the 1956–1957 Kehrli and the team won promotion to the Nationalliga A. But at the end of the season the team suffered relegation. Kehrli then joined FC Basel's first team for their 1958–59 season under manager Rudi Strittich. After playing in three test games, Kehrli played his domestic league debut for his new club in the first game of the season, on 31 August 1958, as Basel were defeated 1–2 by La Chaux-de-Fonds. FC Grenchen
FC Grenchen is a Swiss football club, based in Grenchen. They currently play in the 2. Liga, and play their matches at the Brühl Stadium. History FC Grenchen was founded in 1906. In 1937 they gained promotion to the top league of Swiss football, Nationalliga A, in these inter-war years they came runners-up in this league three times, and runner up in the cup, but their biggest success came post-war coming second in the league one further time before winning the cup the following season in 1960. FC La Chaux-de-Fonds is a Swiss football club based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. It was founded in 1894 and used to play at the Stade Charrière. History F.C. La Chaux-de-Fonds was founded on July 4, 1894, and won the Swiss first division in the seasons 1954, 1955, 1964. The team's most recent spell in the top division was 1986–87. Fussball-Club Luzern (), or simply abbreviated to FCL, is a Swiss sports club based in Lucerne (german: Luzern). Karlsruher SC is a German association football club, based in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg that currently plays in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier of German football. Antoine Kohn
Antoine "Spitz" Kohn (1 November 1933 – 24 November 2012) was a Luxembourg football player and football manager. Club career Kohn played as a striker, and spent most of his career plying his trade abroad, in Germany, Switzerland, and finally Netherlands, where he later became a successful manager. During his playing days, he earned the nickname "Spitz" for his ferocity and goal-scoring instinct. International career Kohn made his debut for Luxembourg in a September 1953 World Cup qualification match against France, in which he immediately scored a goal.
