10th Parliament Of Turkey
The 10th Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 2 May 1954 to 1 November 1957. There were 541 MPs in the parliament. While the Democrat Party (DP) won a vast majority. The opposition was represented by the Republican People's Party (CHP) with 30 seats, the Republican Nation Party with 5 seats and 7 Independents. In 1955 a new party ( Liberty Party) was also founded. Operation Deep Water
Operation Deep Water was a 1957 NATO naval exercise held in the Mediterranean Sea that simulated protecting the Dardanelles from a Soviet invasion. By controlling this bottleneck in a war situation, the Soviet Black Sea Fleet would be prevented from entering the Mediterranean. Operation Deep Water was part of a series of NATO military exercises that took place in Fall 1957. This exercise featured a simulated nuclear air strike in the Gallipoli area, reflecting NATO's nuclear umbrella policy to offset the Soviet Union's numerical superiority of ground forces in Europe. Operation Deep Water also involved the first units of the United States Marine Corps to participate in a helicopter-borne vertical envelopment/air assault operation during an overseas deployment. Abdülhalik Renda
Mustafa Abdülhalik Renda (29 November 1881 – 1 October 1957) was a Turkish civil servant and politician of Tosk Albanian descent. Biography Renda was born in Yanya, in the Janina Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. Renda was of Albanian origin.. "(Renda). Bureaucrat of Albanian descent." From 1902 to 1918, he served in several towns and cities of the Ottoman Empire as district governor and province governor. In 1918, he was exiled for six months to Malta. Following his return, he was appointed undersecretary in the Ministry of Economy and then in the Ministry of Interior. He became Governor of Konya, before he was appointed the first Governor of İzmir after the Turkish forces re-captured the city from withdrawing Greek troops. Nurullah Ataç
Nurullah Ataç (21 August 1898 – 17 May 1957) was a Turkish writer, poet and literary critic. Life He was born on 21 August 1898 in Istanbul, then the capital of the Ottoman Empire. He studied in the Galatasaray High School and the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University. After his father's death in 1921, he began serving as a French teacher in various schools in Istanbul. After the proclamation of the Turkish Republic he also served in Ankara and Adana. In 1926 he married Leman Ataç. He was appointed as an official translator of the presidency. He also served as the chairman of the media branch of the Turkish Language Association. Ataç contributed to several publications, including '' Yedigün''. and ''Adımlar''. Ali Nesin
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. The issue of his succession caused a major rift between Muslims and divided them into Shia and Sunni groups. Zerrin Özer (born 4 November 1957) is a Turkish pop singer. She has been called Turkey's Janis Joplin by several fans. She has many famous hits such as "Gönül" (Heart), "Son Mektup" (The Last Letter), "Dayanamıyorum" (I Can't Stand It), "Dünya Tatlısı" (World Sweet), "Paşa Gönlüm" (My Great Heart), "Kıyamam", and "Ah İstanbul". Erkan Can (born 1 November 1958) is a Turkish film and theatre actor, who has won the Golden Orange for Best Actor twice for his roles in '' On Board'' and '' Takva: A Man's Fear of God'', and the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor for ''Takva: A Man's Fear of God''. Ahmet Kaya
Ahmet Kaya (28 October 1957 – 16 November 2000) was a Turkish–Kurdish folk singer. Kaya was persecuted by Turkish nationalist celebrities and authorities. Kaya left Turkey in an act of self-exile, and moved to France, where he would shortly after die of a heart attack. He was granted the Musician of the Year Award in February 1999 during a controversial award ceremony involving Turkey's most popular singers, at which he declared that he wanted to sing a song in Kurdish. Tunch Ilkin (born Tunç Ali İlkin; September 23, 1957 – September 4, 2021) was a Turkish-born player of American football and sports broadcaster. A two-time Pro Bowl selection as an offensive tackle with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was the first Turk to play in the National Football League (NFL). Sırrı Sakık
Sırrı Sakık (born 1 August 1957, Yörecik, Muş Province, Turkey) is a Turkish-Kurdish journalist and politician. He is a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and Mayor of Ağrı. He was elected in the 2023 Turkish parliamentary election. Background Sakık is the brother of former Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) commander Şemdin Sakık. Bedri Baykam is a Turkish artist. Early life Baykam was born in Ankara, Turkey. Baykam's father, Dr. Suphi Baykam, is a deputy in the Turkish parliament, and his mother, Mutahhar Baykam, is an architectural engineer. Baykam studied at Sorbonne University in Paris from 1975 to 1980 and earned an MBA degree. During this time, he studied drama in L'Actorat, Paris. Mehmet Ali Erbil (born 8 February 1957) is a Turkish comedian, actor and talk show host of Kurds, Kurdish descent. Biography Mehmet Ali was born in Istanbul, Turkey, as the son of Sadettin Erbil, a theatre and film actor, in 1957. He is the grandson of Mehmed Efendi and the great-grandson of Mehmed Esad Erbilî.
