1957 Sun Bowl
The 1957 Sun Bowl was a college football postseason bowl game between the George Washington Colonials and the Texas Western Miners. Mike Brumbelow
Lester Michael Brumbelow (July 13, 1906 – August 11, 1977) was an American football and basketball player and coach. He played football and basketball for Texas Christian University from 1927 to 1929 and was the captain and most valuable player of the TCU Horned Frogs undefeated 1929 football team that won the school's first Southwest Conference championship. He later served as an assistant football coach and head basketball coach at TCU from 1936 to 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the athletics program at the Navy Pre-Flight School, and attained the rank of lieutenant commander. After the war, he served as an assistant football coach at the University of Mississippi from 1946 to 1948. From 1950 to 1956 he was the head football coach at Texas Western College, now the University of Texas at El Paso; he also served as the school's athletic director from 1950 to 1959. Don Maynard
Donald Rogers Maynard (January 25, 1935 – January 10, 2022) was an American professional American football, football wide receiver known for playing for the New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL). He also played with the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals; and the Shreveport Steamer of the World Football League (WFL). Maynard was a four-time American Football League All-Star games, AFL All-Star and played for the Super Bowl III champions. The Jets retired number, retired Maynard's No. 13 in his honor. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and included on the American Football League All-Time Team, AFL All-Time Team. Sun Bowl
The Sun Bowl is a college football bowl game that has been played since 1935 in the southwestern United States at El Paso, Texas. Along with the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl, it is the second-oldest bowl game in the country, behind the Rose Bowl. Usually held near the end of December, games are played at the Sun Bowl stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. Since 2011, it has featured teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. Since 2019, the game has been sponsored by Kellogg's and is officially known as the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, after the mascot for the company's Frosted Flakes cereal. The 1965 Sun Bowl was a college football postseason bowl game between the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas Western Miners. Background TCU tied for second in the Southwestern Conference, in the penultimate season for Coach Abe Martin, and first bowl game since 1959. Dobbs was in his first season with the independent Texas Western team, in their first bowl game since 1957. This was their seventh appearance in the Sun Bowl. The UTEP Miners football program represents University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in the sport of American football.
