The 1956 Campeonato Paulista da Primeira Divisão, organized by the Federação Paulista de Futebol, was the 55th season of São Paulo's top professional football league. Santos won the title for the third time. The Campeonato Paulista Série A1, commonly known as Campeonato Paulista, nicknamed Paulistão, is the top-flight professional football league in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Run by the FPF, the league is contested between 16 clubs and typically lasts from January to April. Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho, colloquially known as Estádio do Pacaembu (), is an Art Deco stadium in São Paulo, located in the Pacaembu neighborhood. The stadium is owned by the Municipal Prefecture of São Paulo. Emanuele Del Vecchio, commonly known as Del Vecchio (24 September 1934 – 7 October 1995), was a Brazilian football forward, who played for the Brazilian national team. Club career Born in São Vicente, São Paulo, Del Vecchio started his career in 1954, defending Santos, and being part of the squad that won the Campeonato Paulista in 1955 and in 1956, finishing as that competition's top goalscorer with 23 goals in 1955. He then transferred to Italy, where he scored 13 goals in the 27 Italian Serie A games he played for Verona. Del Vecchio then played 68 Italian League games and scored 27 goals for Napoli, before moving to Padova, where he scored eight goals in 21 games. Augusto Vieira de Oliveira (4 June 1930 – 26 August 2004), commonly known as Tite, was a Brazilian footballer who played as a left winger. Tite had his playing career mainly associated with Santos, being a part of the ''Os Santásticos'' team. Club career Born in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Tite began his career with the amateur sides of hometown club Goytacaz. In 1947 he moved to Fluminense, but after seeing little chances of playing in the first team due to the presence of Telê Santana, he joined Santos in 1951. After making his debut at the club in May 1951, Tite became a regular starter for ''Peixe'' before the breakthrough of Pepe, who played in the same position. Jabaquara Atlético Clube, or simply Jabaquara, is a Brazilian football team based in Santos, São Paulo. Founded in 1914, it plays in Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão. History Jabaquara Atlético Clube was founded on November 15, 1914 by Spanish immigrants as Hespanha Foot Ball Club. The club played their first game against Clube Afonso XIII, which were another club founded by Spanish immigrants. The game ended in 1–1 draw.
