1954 FIFA World Cup Squads
Below are the squads for the 1954 FIFA World Cup final tournament in Switzerland. Each team had to submit a squad of 22 players. All the teams included three goalkeepers, except England, Mexico, Scotland, South Korea, Uruguay and Yugoslavia, who only named two. This was the first World Cup for which the players were assigned squad numbers. Scotland were the only team to have players from foreign clubs (namely 7 players from English clubs). 1954 FIFA World Cup
The 1954 FIFA World Cup was the fifth edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football tournament for senior men's national teams of the nations affiliated to FIFA. It was held in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July. Switzerland was selected as the host country in July 1946. At the tournament several all-time records for goal-scoring were set, including the highest average number of goals scored per game. The tournament was won by West Germany, who defeated tournament favourites Hungary 3–2 in the final, their first World Cup title. Host selection Switzerland was awarded the tournament unopposed at a meeting in Luxembourg City on 22 July 1946, the same day Brazil was selected to host the 1950 World Cup. Aluísio Francisco da Luz (1 March 1931 – 19 April 2020), simply known as Índio, was a Brazilian footballer. He was born in Cabedelo, Paraíba. A striker, Índio won the Rio State Championship title with Flamengo in 1953, 1954 and 1955. He also played for the Brazil national football team at the 1954 FIFA World Cup finals. Dequinha
José Mendonça dos Santos, simply known as Dequinha (March 19, 1928 – July 23, 1997), was a Brazilian footballer. The midfielder started his career in played yet for Potiguar de Mossoró, ABC (where he won the 1947 Rio Grande do Norte State Championship), and América-PE until 1950 when he signed with Flamengo. Dequinha was a key player during Flamengo's 1953-54-55 Rio State Championships campaigns. He played the 1954 FIFA World Cup for Brazil and remained in the national team for another two years.
