1952–53 In Belgian Football
The 1952–53 season was the 50th season of competitive football in Belgium. RFC Liégeois won their 5th Division I title. This was the first season since the 1952 reform of the national competitions. A new level of football was introduced at the top of the league system. The divisions were also renamed, with the top level being named Division I (one league of 16 teams), the second level Division II (one league of 16 teams), the 3rd level Division III (2 leagues of 16 teams each) and the lowest level remaining the Promotion (4 leagues of 16 teams each). The Belgium national football team played 6 friendly games (3 wins, 3 losses) and then started their 1954 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with 2 away wins in Finland and Sweden. Henri 'Rik' François Louis Coppens (29 April 1930 – 5 February 2015) was a Belgian association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), striker. He played 389 games and scored 261 goals for Beerschot AC. Coppens won the first Belgian Golden Shoe in 1954. Olympic Stadium (Amsterdam)
The Olympic Stadium (Dutch: ''Olympisch Stadion'', ) is a sporting venue which was used as the main stadium for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The venue is currently used mostly for athletics, other sports events and concerts. When completed, the stadium had a capacity of 31,600. Following the completion of the rival De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam in 1937, the Amsterdam authorities increased the capacity of the Olympic Stadium to 64,000 by adding a second ring to the stadium. In 1987 the stadium was listed as a national monument. AFC Ajax used the Olympic Stadium for international games until 1996, when the Amsterdam Arena, since 2018 renamed Johan Cruyff Arena, was completed. Victor "Torreke" Lemberechts (18 May 1924 – 24 June 1992) was a Belgian international footballer A football player or footballer is a sportsperson who plays one of the different types of football. Jean-Louis Straetmans (26 September 1931 – 9 October 2016) was a Belgian footballer who played as a forward. He made five appearances for the Belgium national team from 1952 to 1956. Club career Straetmans was born in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. He scored 151 goals in 273 matches in the Belgian Second Division for White Star, ranking fifth in the list of the league's top scorers as of 2008. He never played in the first tier.
