1952 United States Presidential Election In Missouri
The 1952 United States presidential election in Missouri took place on November 4, 1952, as part of the 1952 United States presidential election. Voters chose 13 representatives, or electors, to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Missouri was won by Columbia University President Dwight D. Eisenhower ( R–New York), running with Senator Richard Nixon, with 50.71 percent of the popular vote, against Adlai Stevenson ( D–Illinois), running with Senator John Sparkman, with 49.14 percent of the popular vote. Missouri weighed in for this election as slightly over 9 points more Democratic than the nation-at-large. It would become the only state which Eisenhower won in 1952 but would flip to Stevenson four years later. 1956 United States Presidential Election In Missouri
The 1956 United States presidential election in Missouri took place on November 6, 1956, as part of the 1956 United States presidential election. Voters chose 13 representatives, or electors, to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Democrat Adlai Stevenson II narrowly won the state of Missouri over the Republican incumbent, Dwight D. Eisenhower, thanks in large part to a 72,000-vote margin in St. Louis. This election saw the state deviate from its traditional status as a national bellwether; except for this election, Missouri chose the eventual winner of each U.S. presidential contest from 1904 to 2004. Missouri was the only state Eisenhower won in 1952 that Stevenson managed to flip. As of 2020, this was the last election in which the Republican nominee won the presidency without carrying Missouri. Audrain County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,962. Its county seat is Mexico. The county was organized December 13, 1836, and named for Colonel James Hunter Audrain of the War of 1812 and who later was elected to the state legislature. History Audrain county was formed from a non-county area with portions under the administration of Montgomery, Callaway, Boone, Ralls, or Monroe counties at various times prior to its official establishment in 1836. Atchison County, Missouri
Atchison County is the northwesternmost county in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the county had a population of 5,305. Its county seat is Rock Port. It was originally known as Allen County when it was detached from Holt County in 1843. The county was officially organized on February 14, 1845, and named for U.S. Senator David Rice Atchison from Missouri. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.5%) is water. Atchison's western boundary for the most part is the Missouri River and Nebraska. An 1867 flood straightened a bend in the river north of Watson. Both Nebraska and Missouri claimed the 5,000 acre McKissick Island that extends almost two miles into Atchison County. The Supreme Court in 1904 decided that the land belongs to Nebraska. Andrew County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the county had a population of 18,135. Its county seat is Savannah. Adair County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. The population census for 2020 was 25,314. Eric Hass
Eric Hass (March 4, 1905 – October 2, 1980) was a four-time Socialist Labor candidate for President of the United States. Life Hass was of German and Danish ancestry, and was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1905. He died of a heart attack in Community Hospital, Santa Rosa, California on October 2, 1980. State elections In 1942, he ran for New York State Attorney General. In 1944, he ran for U.S. Senator from New York. In 1950, 1958 and 1962, he ran for Governor of New York. Presidential elections In 1952, his running mate was Stephen Emery; in 1956 and 1960, Georgia Cozzini; and in 1964, Henning A. Blomen. He came in third place in 1964. Darlington Hoopes (September 11, 1896 – September 25, 1989) was an American politician and lawyer who served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a member of the Socialist Party of America. He served as chairman of the Socialist Party of America from 1946 to 1968. Hoopes was born in LaVale, Maryland, and educated at the George School and the University of Wisconsin School of Agriculture. He ran for multiple offices with the Socialist nomination and served in multiple position within the Socialist Party; with him later becoming chairman of the party. He served as the Socialist Party's vice-presidential nominee during the 1944 presidential election and as the party's presidential nominee during the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections.
