The 1950–51 Santosh Trophy was the seventh edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held in Calcutta, West Bengal. Bengal defeated Hyderabad 1–0 in the final. Bengal was captained by Sailen Manna. Preliminary Matches Quarter Finals The Delhi center-forward Naththu headed in a corner kick from Dharambir in the sixth minute. He scored in the second minute of the second half from a pass by Dharambir. Thapa scored a minute before the end from a pass by Naththu. Moin scored in the 18th and 23rd minutes of the second half and Layeek in the 29th. Bengal Football Team
The West Bengal football team (Bengali: পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ফুটবল দল) is an Indian football team representing West Bengal in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They became the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament – by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969. History Incorporated in 1893 during the British rule in India, West Bengal have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 45 times, having won 32 titles, the most by any team. Muhammad Noor (1925 – 9 June 2000) was an Indian footballer. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Norbert Fruvall
Norbert Andrew Fruvall was an Indian footballer. In the 1940s, Fruvall was the captain and the coach of Hyderabad City Police that was one of the strongest football teams in India. He recruited players like Noor Muhammad, Moinuddin and G. Y. S. Laiq. The Police won the Ashe Gold Cup in Bangalore in 1943 defeating Royal Air Force 2–1, with Fruvall scoring both goals. When the Durand Cup was resumed after war in 1950, they won it in the first year. Fruvall was selected to play for India in the 1948 Olympics but could not make it. He retired from football in 1951. He captained Hyderabad in their first appearance in Santosh Trophy in 1944. His son Conrad Fruvall was a cricketer. Sheikh Abdul Latif
Sheikh Abdul Latif (also Sheikh Abdul Lateef; 15 August 1928 – 2 February 2000) was an Indian footballer. He participated at the 1952 Summer Olympics, 1956 Summer Olympics and the 1960 Summer Olympics, with Syed Abdul Rahim managed India. In 1959–60, he captained the national team. Playing career Latif during his playing days, was influenced by Indian football legend Syed Abdus Samad. In 1959, Latif led India in pre-Olympics and Merdeka tournament. Pansanttom Venkatesh (1926 – 1 June 1977) was an Indian footballer. Venkatesh played for East Bengal and the India national football team during his professional career. Club career Venkatesh spent most of his club career in East Bengal, and captained the team in 1952–53. He was part of the team that played against German side Kickers Offenbach and FC Torpedo Moscow in 1953. He also scored two goals against Torpedo in their 3–3 draw at the Central Dynamo Stadium. With East Bengal from 1948 to 1953, he scored overall 81 goals, and emerged as top scorer in 1953. In the same year, he represented the club at the World Youth Festival in Romania. Mewalal
Sheoo Mewalal (also known as Sahu Mewalal; 1 July 1926 – 27 December 2008) was an Indian footballer in Kolkata. He played as a striker and was known for his fitness, bicycle kicks, and goal-scoring abilities, especially using the rabona kick. Mewalal's playing career with a reported 1032 goals along with 32 hat-tricks in both the official and exhibition matches, was ended in 1958 due to an injury. Childhood and early career Mewalal was born in Daulatpur in Chitarghati Panchayat of the Gaya district (now Nawada district) in Bihar, to Sahoo Mahadeoram and Kusumi Devi. Syed Moinuddin
Syed Khwaja Moinuddin (1924 – 1 October 1978), usually called Moin, was an Indian footballer. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Playing career "Moin" was coached in the youth by Syed Abdul Rahim. He represented Hyderabad Eleven Hunters and Student Athletic Club, and Hyderabad Police. He served in the Police for 36 years, retiring as Inspector in 1977 and having played until 1963. He could not take part in the 1948 Olympics due to the absence of a sponsor but played in the 1952 Olympics under Sailen Manna and in the 1954 Asian Games. He captained India at home against Sweden in 1954 and Russia in 1955.
