1949 Cal Poly Mustangs Football Team
The 1949 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic State College—now known as California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo—as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the 1949 college football season. Led by Chuck Pavelko his second and final season as head coach, Cal Poly compiled an overall record of 4–6 with a mark of 1–3 in conference play, tying for third place in the CCAA. The Mustangs played home games at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California. The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. All of its current members are public universities, and upon UC San Diego's departure on July 1, 2020, all are members of the California State University system (two of them being Cal Polys). It was founded in December 1938 and began competition in 1939. The commissioner of the CCAA is Mitch Cox. CCAA offices are located in Chico, California. The CCAA is the most successful conference in NCAA Division II, as its former and current members have won 155 National Championships. The 1949 San Francisco State Gators football team represented San Francisco State College—now known as San Francisco State University—as a member of the Far Western Conference (FWC) during the 1949 college football season. Led by Dick Boyle in his seventh and final season as head coach, San Francisco State compiled an overall record of 3–4–1 with a mark of 1–2–1 in conference play, tying for third place in the FWC. For the season the team was outscored by its opponents 218 to 114. The Gators played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco.
