Grady Lewis
Grady W. Lewis (March 25, 1917 – March 11, 2009) was an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs and Oklahoma Sooners. Lewis played four seasons with the Phillips 66 Oilers of the AAU, and three seasons (1946–1949) in the Basketball Association of America as a member of the Detroit Falcons, St. Louis Bombers, and Baltimore Bullets. He averaged 5.4 points per game in his career and won a league championship with Baltimore in 1948. Lewis also was a member of two AAU national championship teams with Phillips 66 (1940, 1946). Lewis coached the St. Louis Bombers during the 1948–49 and 1949–50 seasons. Ariel Maughan
Ariel Leishman Maughan (April 26, 1923 – August 4, 1997) was an American professional basketball player. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Maughan attended Utah State University and started his professional career in the Basketball Association of America in 1946, his career lasted five seasons and he played for four teams. Most of his points came from under the basket, although he received the nickname "Ace" for his shooting ability. He was also well known for being able to leap high enough to drop in the basketball with his hands above the rim. Maughan ended his career with 2,046 points in 259 games (7.9 ppg). The Indianapolis Jets were a Basketball Association of America (BAA) team based in Indianapolis. They were founded as the Indianapolis Kautskys and used that name until the team joined the BAA. They played for one year in the BAA and then ceased operations due to the formation of the Indianapolis Olympians. 1948–49 New York Knicks Season
The 1948–49 New York Knicks season was the third season for the team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Knicks had a 32–28 record in 1948–49 and finished second in the Eastern Division, six games behind the Washington Capitols. New York qualified for the playoffs, and defeated the Baltimore Bullets 2–1 in a best-of-three series to earn a place in the Eastern Division Finals.
