Ken Loeffler
Kenneth D. Loeffler (April 14, 1902 – January 1, 1975) was an American collegiate and professional basketball coach. He was mostly known for guiding the La Salle Explorers men's basketball team to the 1952 National Invitation Tournament and 1954 NCAA basketball tournament titles. After earning a Bachelor's degree at Pennsylvania State University (1920–24) and a short pro basketball career (1924–29), the Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania native began his collegiate coaching career at Geneva College (1928–35). In 1935 he became basketball head coach at Yale University, and also assistant coach to the football and baseball varsity. In seven years at Yale Loeffler put up a 61–82 record. During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force. After the war Loeffler began coaching pro teams in the Basketball Association of America, first the St. Louis Bombers (1946–48), then the Providence Steamrollers (1948–49). The 1948–49 BAA season was the first season for the Fort Wayne Pistons in the NBA/BAA and eighth season as a franchise. Despite their NBL success which included four championship series births and two titles the team wasn't able to translate that success to the new league and missed the playoffs for the first time in team history. The team was led by center John Mahnken (9.5 ppg) and forward Blackie Towery (7.5 ppg). Carl Meinhold
Carl Marvin Meinhold (March 29, 1926 – February 23, 2019) was an American professional basketball player. Early life A 6'2" guard/forward from Long Island University, Meinhold played two seasons (1947–1949) in the Basketball Association of America as a member of the Baltimore Bullets, Providence Steamrollers and Chicago Stags, He averaged 5.3 points per game in his BAA career and won a league championship with Baltimore in 1948. In 1953-54 he played for the Washington Generals, a team which toured with (and generally lost to) the Harlem Globetrotters. Meinhold was named to the all-league first team while playing for the Berwick Carbuilders of the Eastern Professional Basketball League in 1954. The history of the Golden State Warriors began in Philadelphia in 1946. In 1962, the franchise was relocated to San Francisco, California and became known as the San Francisco Warriors until 1971, when its name was changed to the current Golden State Warriors. Kenneth Lloyd Sailors (January 14, 1921 – January 30, 2016) was an American professional basketball player active in the 1940s and early 1950s. A guard (basketball), guard, he is notable for inventing the Jump shot (basketball), jump shot as an alternative to the two-handed, flat-footed glossary of basketball terms#s, set shot. Sailors was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Bushnell, Nebraska and grew up on a farm south of Hillsdale, Wyoming, where he developed his effective jump shot while playing against his older brother Barton (known as Bud). He eventually brought his skills to the University of Wyoming, and in 1943 he led the Cowboys to the 1943 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Washington Capitols were a former Basketball Association of America (forerunner of the National Basketball Association) team based in Washington, D.C. from 1946 to 1951. The team was coached from 1946 to 1949 by NBA Hall of Famer Red Auerbach. History The team was founded in 1946 as a charter BAA team; it became a charter NBA team in 1949.
