1946 Polish Football Championship
The 1946 Polish Football Championship was the 20th edition of the Polish Football Championship and 18th completed season ended with the selection of a winner. The first season of the Polish championship after the end of World War II. Played by 18 regional champions in a cup system (qualifying round, first round and second round). The championship was decided in final tournament played among four teams. The champions were Polonia Warsaw, who won their 1st Polish title. The Polish football champions are the annual winners of Poland's premier annual football competition. The title has been contested since 1920 in varying forms of competition. From 1921 to 1926 the championship was decided in a series of tournaments until the league was formed in 1927. Since then the title was awarded the winners of the highest league in Polish football. In 1951 the title was awarded to the winner of the Polish Cup. Zagłębie Sosnowiec () is a football club based in Sosnowiec, Poland. The club was established in 1906. It won Polish Cup four times (1962, 1963, 1977, 1978), and also was four times Polish runner up (1955, 1964, 1967, 1972). Apart from football, the organization of Zagłębie has other departments, such as ice-hockey (KH Zagłębie Sosnowiec; five times Polish champion: 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985) and men's basketball (twice Polish champion: 1985, 1986). History The history of Zagłębie Sosnowiec dates back to 1906, when the city of Sosnowiec belonged to Congress Poland, Russian Empire. In that year, a group of young workers of the Milowice Steelworks formed a sports organization. Their activities were mostly concentrated on playing football at suburban meadows.
