1946 Balkan Cup
The 1946 Balkan Cup was the 8th edition of this tournament. The participanting teams were Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania and for the first time ever, Albania, who ended up winning the tournament in their first try. Squads *The four men's national teams involved in the tournament were required to register a squad of over 14 players, including one or two goalkeepers. *The age listed for each player is on 7 October 1946, the first day of the tournament. *The club listed is the club for which the player last played a competitive match prior to the tournament. Qemal Stafa Stadium
The Qemal Stafa Stadium ( sq, Stadiumi Qemal Stafa), named after Qemal Stafa (1920–1942), a World War II hero, was a national stadium and the largest football stadium in Tirana, Albania. Construction started in 1939 and the stadium was inaugurated in 1946 for the Balkan Cup, which was won by the Albania national football team. The stadium has been used for football matches of the Albanian Superliga and the national team, athletic events, and the six Albanian Spartakiads. Although it was enlarged in 1974 to accommodate up to 35,000 spectators, in the 1990s it became an all-seater stadium, and its capacity was reduced to 19,700. The stadium was demolished in June 2016 to make way for the new national stadium called the Arena Kombëtare, was constructed on the same site and opened in November 2019. FK Partizani Tirana
Futboll Klub Partizani, or FK Partizani for short, is an Albanian professional football club based in Tirana, that competes in the Kategoria Superiore. Founded in 1946, the club was historically affiliated to the Albanian army. Partizani's current temporary home ground is Arena Kombëtare and the newly built stadium at Partizani Complex. The club first competed in an official competition in 1947 where they won the Albania National Championship, thus being crowned the champions of Albania in their debut season as well as the following two seasons. In total the club have been national champions on 16 occasions between 1947 and 2019, which is the last time the club won the Kategoria Superiore. Pal Mirashi
Pal Mirashi (13 December 1925 — 13 October 2001) was an Albanian football striker. He is known for being part of the 1946 Albania vs Yugoslavia football match, which was Albania's first official match. He earned 8 caps (plus one unofficial) with the national team, scoring 4 goals. Biography Mirashi was born in Shkodër on 13 December 1925 into a poor family, where many of his siblings died as infants. Loro Boriçi
Lorenco Boriçi (4 August 1922 – 25 April 1984), commonly known as Loro Boriçi was an Albanian association football forward and is regarded as one of Albania's football legends. He played mostly for Partizan Tirana (won the 1949 and 1954 Albanian title and scored 68 goals for them) and Vllaznia (won the 1945 Albanian title). Boriçi was the reserve of Silvio Piola in Italian Serie A with Lazio. He captained Albania in winning the 1946 Balkan Cup. Today, Loro-Boriçi Stadium in Shkodër is named in his honour. Qamil Teliti
Qamil Teliti (9 July 1922 – 7 December 1977), nicknamed ''Tarzani'', was an Albanian footballer known for being one of the most important players of the Albania team that won the Balkan Cup in 1946. Along with Loro Boriçi he was one of the artifices of the success of the team. He was posthumously honoured for his services to Albanian football in 2018. Club career Teliti started his senior career at hometown club Besa Kavajë during the mid-late 1930s. He was known for his powerful right foot and scoring from long distances. Vasif Biçaku (2 March 1922) was an Albanian footballer who played for Sportklub Tiranë and Apolonia Fier as well as the Albania national team. He is also known for being part of the 1946 Albania vs Yugoslavia football match, which was Albania's first official match. In total, he earned 18 caps for the national team between 1946 and 1952. Besim Fagu (10 March 1925 – 1 January 1999) was an Albanian football player who played for 17 Nentori Tiranë and Partizani Tirana where he won seven National Championships. Bahri Ahmet Kavaja (23 August 1924 – 19 August 1987) was an Albanian football player who played for Vllaznia Shkodër and Dinamo Tirana as well as the Albania national team.
