Bengal Football Team
The West Bengal football team (Bengali: পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ফুটবল দল) is an Indian football team representing West Bengal in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They became the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament – by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969. History Incorporated in 1893 during the British rule in India, West Bengal have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 45 times, having won 32 titles, the most by any team. Norbert Fruvall
Norbert Andrew Fruvall was an Indian footballer. In the 1940s, Fruvall was the captain and the coach of Hyderabad City Police that was one of the strongest football teams in India. He recruited players like Noor Muhammad, Moinuddin and G. Y. S. Laiq. The Police won the Ashe Gold Cup in Bangalore in 1943 defeating Royal Air Force 2–1, with Fruvall scoring both goals. When the Durand Cup was resumed after war in 1950, they won it in the first year. Fruvall was selected to play for India in the 1948 Olympics but could not make it. He retired from football in 1951. He captained Hyderabad in their first appearance in Santosh Trophy in 1944. His son Conrad Fruvall was a cricketer. Thenmadom Mathew Varghese (1920 – 10 January 1979) was an Indian professional footballer who played as a defender and was also known as Thiruvalla Pappan and Tata Pappan. He began his football career at the age of 16 by playing for ''Thiruvalla'' ''Town Club.'' Talimeren Ao (28 January 1918 – 13 September 1998) was an Indian footballer and physician from Nagaland. He is best known as the captain of the India national football team in their first ever match after independence. One of the most famous Nagas, he was a figurehead of India's football history, and his name is resonant in the collective memory of the people. He played domestic club football for Mohun Bagan. Taj Mohammed (born 1924, date of death unknown) was an Indian footballer who played for then Calcutta Football League side East Bengal. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Playing career Mohammed began his club football career in 1948 at Calcutta Football League club East Bengal. He along with Muhammad Umer, appeared with Karachi-based National Football Championship club Friends Union in 1953–54, and also captained the team. After representing India at international level, he migrated to Pakistan and went on to play for the Pakistan national football team at the Quadrangular Tournament in 1953 in Rangoon. The Cooperage Football Ground is a football stadium located in Nariman Point, Mumbai, India. It is currently home to multiple Mumbai Football League clubs.
