Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St Olaf's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when gramophone records and radio became common. Richard Badendyck
Carl Richard Badendyck (born in 1942) is a Norwegian Jazz singer and pianist, that in his time was strong in Decathlon. Biography Badendyck has released three solo albums, ''That’s All'' (2005), ''Peace'' (2010) and ''Lover'' (2015), and it is on time for a Norwegian male voice on the jazz scene again. The second album ''Peace'' containing American standards and with his son Dag Richard Badendyck as pianist on a song, got good reception in the media. The latest album with songs from «The American Songbook» with strings arranged by Odd Riisnæs who also plays saxophone, while Stig Hvalryg playing upright bass and Sigmund Thorp conducting the string orchestra. There are for the most standards, except Badendycks own tune, "Lover". It has been done with respect for the masters, and sounds much more robust than for example Kurt Elling and Gregory Porter, or for that matter Jimmy Scott. Grynet Molvig
Ann-Kristin "Grynet" Molvig (born 23 December 1942 in Rygge) is a Norwegian actress and singer. She made her name as a singer in the 1960, with acts such as Kjell Karlsen and Willy Andresen. Later, she also started performing in Sweden, often together with Povel Ramel. At the same time, she also acted in films, both in Norway and Sweden. In 1967, she won the award for Best Actress at the 5th Moscow International Film Festival for her role in '' The Princess''. In 2006, she returned to the stage after a long absence, with a role in the musical '' Sweet Charity''. Molvig has been married three times, secondly to the Norwegian composer Alfred Janson and later to the Swedish count Carl Adam Lewenhaupt ("Noppe"). Gro Schibsted Sandvik (born 2 October 1942 in Sarpsborg, Norway) is a Norwegian flautist. Career Sandvik is a member of the Bergen Woodwind Quintet and served as solo flutist in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1967 until 2005. She has an active career as soloist and chamber music performer, which includes premier performances of many works written especially for her, and the Scandinavian premier of John Corigliano's ''Concerto for Flute''. She had private studies with Marcel Moyse. She holds a professorship in music performance at the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen. She was a visiting professor at the University of Iowa, School of Music for the academic year 2006/2007. Grønland Church (Oslo)
Grønland Church (''Grønland kirke'') is a church located in the neighbourhood of Grønland in the borough of Gamle Oslo in Oslo, Norway. Grønland Church congregation was formed in 1861. Grønland Church was consecrated on March 3, 1869, by Bishop Jens Lauritz Arup. The church is characterized its tall and monumental tower surrounded by four smaller spires. The structure is of brick, in neo-Romanesque architectural style. Its architect was Wilhelm von Hanno. He also designed the school, former fire station and former police station, together with the church as a unified group of buildings in Grønland, a district that recently (1859) had been incorporated into Christiania (now Oslo). Grønland Church originally had 1380 seats, which has since been reduced to approx. 800. The church has an historic organ built by Walcker Orgelbau in 1877. It was moved to Grønland Church in 1934. The Norwegian Academy of Music (Norwegian: ''Norges musikkhøgskole'', NMH) is a university-level music conservatory located in Oslo, Norway, in the neighbourhood of Majorstuen, Frogner. It is the largest music academy in Norway and offers the country's highest level of music education.
