1942 VFL Grand Final
The 1942 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Essendon Football Club and Richmond Football Club, held at the Princes Park in Melbourne on 19 September 1942. It was the 44th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1942 VFL season. Ernie "Sonny" Coward (27 January 1916 – 5 April 1985) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Danny Guinane
Danny Guinane (18 May 1911 – 28 August 1992) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Guinane, a defender, came to Richmond from South Ballarat. He polled eight Brownlow Medal votes in 1939, the second most by a Richmond player behind Jack Dyer. Sid Silk
Sidney Edward Silk (17 April 1921 – 26 June 2004) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1940s. Silk was recruited locally and made his debut in the 1941 Preliminary Final victory over Carlton at the Melbourne Cricket Ground but could not hold his place for the Grand Final. Silk did however play in Essendon's 1942 premiership team, as the 19th man. Richard Sylvannus Reynolds (20 June 1915 – 2 September 2002) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Reynolds is one of four footballers to have won three Brownlow Medals, the others being Haydn Bunton Sr., Bob Skilton and Ian Stewart. Revered by Essendon supporters, he was often referred to simply as "King Richard". Jack Cassin
John William Cassin (1 July 1915 – 3 September 1994) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) over eleven seasons in twelve years, and served as the captain coach of the Euroa Football Club in 1948, and of the Colac Football Club from 1949 to 1951. Hugh Jacob Torney (14 November 1909 – 10 February 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL), and with Williamstown in the Victorian Football Association (VFA).
