1939 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Men and pairs competitions took place from February 17th to 19th in Budapest, Hungary. Ladies' competitions took place from February 11th to 12th in Prague, Czechoslovakia. These World Figure Skating Championships were the last before World War II. The Austrian skaters Edi Rada, Emmy Puzinger, Anita Wägeler, Ilse Pausin / Erich Pausin, and the judge Dr. H. Alfred Hirv (figure Skater)
Alfred Hirv (26 March 1880 – 26 May 1918) was an Estonian painter, known especially for his still lifes. For a time he studied with Julius von Klever in Saint Petersburg; further studies took him to Rome and Munich, where he studied at the school of Anton Ažbe. He was the 13-time Danish National Champion from 1940 to 1963 (held intermittently) and Nordic Champion from 1949 to 1951 and in 1953. Horst Faber (9 November 1921 – 4 December 2022) was a German figure skater who competed in men's singles. He represented the SC Riessersee and was a nine-time German champion. His biggest accomplishment was winning the silver medal at the 1951 European Championships.
