Carl Froelich
Carl August Hugo Froelich (5 September 1875 – 12 February 1953) was a German film pioneer and film director. He was born and died in Berlin. Biography Apparatus builder and cameraman From 1903 Froelich was a colleague of Oskar Messter, one of the advance guard of German cinema, for whom initially he worked on the construction of cinematographic equipment. As cameraman for Messter's weekly newsreels he filmed among many other things the aftermath of a train accident on the Berlin elevated railway on 28 September 1908, one of the worst transport disasters of the time. Film director and producer Between 1912 and 1951 he made 77 films. In 1913 Froelich made his directorial debut with ''Richard Wagner (film), Richard Wagner''. ''Heimat'' is a 1938 Cinema of Germany, German historical film, historical drama film directed by Carl Froelich and starring Zarah Leander, Heinrich George and Ruth Hellberg. The film's melodramatic storyline portrays the return of a leading singer to her hometown, where her father wishes her to settle down and marry. It is based on the 1893 play ''Heimat (play), Heimat'' by Hermann Sudermann. It was shot at the Tempelhof Studios in Berlin. Tomotaka Tasaka
was a Japanese film director. Career Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, he began working at Nikkatsu's Kyoto studio in 1924 and eventually came to prominence for a series of realist, humanist films made at Nikkatsu's Tamagawa studio in the late 1930s such as '' Robō no ishi'' and ''Mud and Soldiers'', both of which starred Isamu Kosugi. His war film, ''Five Scouts'', was screened in the competition at the 6th Venice International Film Festival. Tasaka was a victim of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and spent many years recovering. He eventually resumed directing and won the best director prize at the 1958 Blue Ribbon Awards for ''A Slope in the Sun'', which starred Yūjirō Ishihara. His brother, Katsuhiko Tasaka, was also a film director, and his wife, Hisako Takihana, was an actress. Zoltán Korda
Zoltan Korda (June 3, 1895 – October 13, 1961) was a Hungarian-born motion picture screenwriter, director and producer. He made his first film in Hungary in 1918, and worked with his brother Alexander Korda on film-making there and in London. They both moved to the United States in 1940 to Hollywood and the American film industry. Early life and education Born Zoltán Kellner (Kellner Zoltán, in Hungarian name order), of Jewish heritage, in Pusztatúrpásztó, Túrkeve, Hungary (then Austria-Hungary), he was the middle brother of Alexander and Vincent Korda, all of whom became filmmakers. Norman Rae Taurog (February 23, 1899 – April 7, 1981) was an American film director and screenwriter. From 1920 to 1968, Taurog directed 180 films. At the age of 32, he received the Academy Award for Best Director for '' Skippy'' (1931). He is the second youngest person ever to win the award after Damien Chazelle, who won for ''La La Land'' in 2017. He was later nominated for Best Director for the film '' Boys Town'' (1938).
