Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St Olaf's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when gramophone records and radio became common. Per Øien
Per Olav Øien (31 October 1937 – 25 May 2016) was a Norwegian flautist. Biography Øien was born in Bergen to Peder Øien and Eva Kitty Bøe. He graduated from Bergens Handelsgymnas in 1956, and studied flute at Bergen Musikkonservatorium under the flautist Hans Stenseth and music theory teacher Trygve Fischer. In his hometown, he played with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (1956–61), but moved to Oslo to study with Ørnulf Gulbransen. He debuted at Universitetets Aula in 1962 and he started Oslo Blåsekvintett in 1962 with peers. Øien was assigned as solo flutist for the Norwegian Radio Orchestra from 1962 to 1967, and with the Oslo Philharmonic from 1967 to 1985. From 1985 he was appointed professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Karin Krog
Karin Krog (born 15 May 1937) is a Norwegian jazz singer. Life and career Krog began singing jazz as a teenager and attracted attention while performing in jam sessions in Oslo. In 1955, she was hired by the pianist Kjell Karlsen to sing in his sextet. In 1962, she started her first band, and that same year she became a student of the Norwegian-American singer Anne Brown. Krog studied with Brown until 1969. In the 1960s, she performed with the rhythm and blues band Public Enemies, releasing the hit singles "Sunny" and "Watermelon Man".) Eyvind Solås
Eyvind Stauri Solås (11 May 1937 – 22 April 2011) was a Norwegian musician, composer, actor and program host in NRK, both the Norwegian television and radio. Solås was instrumental in the establishment of the music and theater line subjects at Romerike Folk High School, where he was a professor in the late 1960s. He later worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation from 1969-2002 where he hosted the TV series ''Musikknytt'' from 1972-1986. He released the LP "Professoren" with Knut Høiland in 1974 and later "Eyvind & Trond-Viggo" with Trond Viggo Torgersen in 1980. He wrote the music for twenty radio plays.Henriksen, Marianne (2014).
