The 1937 Victorian state election was held in the Australian state of Victoria on Saturday 2 October 1937 to elect 45 of the 65 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. Victorian Legislative Assembly
The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly is the Speaker. There are presently 88 members of the Legislative Assembly elected from single-member divisions. History Victoria was proclaimed a Colony on 1 July 1851 separating from the Colony of New South Wales by an act of the British Parliament. The Legislative Assembly was created on 13 March 1856 with the passing of the ''Victorian Electoral Bill'', five years after the creation of the original unicameral Legislative Council. The Assembly first met on 21 November 1856, and consisted of sixty members representing thirty-seven multi and single-member electorates. Patrick Denigan
Patrick Louis Denigan (4 June 1879 – 1 November 1962) was an Australian politician. He was born at Glendonald near Creswick to farmer Thomas Denigan and Mary Agnes Downing. He was a gold miner at Allandale before becoming a farmer at Bridgewater. On 12 October 1910 he married dressmaker Annie Smith, with whom he had a daughter. He served on Marong Shire Council from 1924 to 1927 and from 1929 to 1936, and was president from 1932 to 1933. In 1936 he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Allandale, representing the Labor Party. He held his seat until 1945, when he was defeated. He subsequently moved to Clunes and then to Ballarat Ballarat ( ) is a city in the Central Highlands (Victoria), Central Highlands of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia.
