1936–37 Birmingham F.C. Season
The 1936–37 Football League season was Birmingham Football Club's 41st in the Football League and their 24th in the First Division. They finished in 11th position in the 22-team division. They entered the 1936–37 FA Cup at the third round proper and lost to Stoke City in that round. Twenty-nine players made at least one appearance in nationally organised competition, and there were thirteen different goalscorers. Goalkeeper Harry Hibbs played in 40 of the 43 matches over the season; among outfield players, full-back Cyril Trigg played in one fewer. Seymour Morris was leading scorer with 16 goals, of which 15 came in the league. George Liddell (footballer)
George Liddell (14 July 1895 – after 1962) was an English professional football player and manager. Life and career Liddell was born in Murton, County Durham, the youngest of five siblings. Upon marrying Charlotte Anderson he changed his family name from Liddle to Liddell. He played football for Yorkshire Amateur and as an amateur for South Shields, then turned professional when he moved to Birmingham in 1920. He spent the whole twelve years of his professional playing career at the club, for whom he made 345 appearances as wing half or full back in all competitions, and played in the 1931 FA Cup Final. He was described as a powerful defender who read the game well and was positive on the ball. When manager Leslie Knighton left Birmingham for Chelsea in 1933, Liddell succeeded him. Tom Fillingham
Thomas Fillingham (6 September 1904 – 1 May 1960) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre half. He made 212 appearances in the Football League in the late 1920s and 1930s. Born in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, Fillingham worked at a colliery and a dyehouse and played local football in the Nottinghamshire area before turning professional with Birmingham, for whom he went on to play 183 games in the Football League First Division. He was a strong, versatile player; originally a forward, he converted to defence, becoming first choice at centre half as the replacement for George Morrall, but was always keen to push forward. He sustained an injury playing for Birmingham in 1934 which resulted in him losing an eye some 15 years later. Dennis Jennings (footballer)
Dennis Bernard Jennings (20 July 1910 – 16 March 1996) was an English professional footballer. He played more than 300 games in the top two divisions of the Football League over a 21-year career which was interrupted by the Second World War, and was the oldest player to appear for Birmingham City in a competitive first-team match. Born in Habberley Valley, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, Jennings played for several local clubs before joining West Bromwich Albion as an amateur. He then played for Kidderminster Harriers before turning professional with First Division club Huddersfield Town with a transfer fee paid of £600. Fred Harris (footballer, Born 1912)
Frederick Harris (2 July 1912 – 11 October 1998) was an English footballer who played his whole professional career for Birmingham City. Life and career Harris was born in Solihull, Warwickshire. He joined Birmingham as an inside forward in 1933 at the age of 19, and scored on his debut in a 2–1 home win against local rivals Aston Villa at the start of the 1934–35 season. He was the club's leading scorer in 1938–39 with 14 League goals and 17 in all competitions. During the Second World War he converted to play as a wing half and played out the rest of his career in that position. His strong tackling and constructive use of the ball impressed manager Harry Storer sufficiently to make him club captain.
