Divizia A
The Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. The Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 campaign, being currently on the 29th place in UEFA's league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Before the 2006–07 season, the competition was known as ''Divizia A'', but the name had to be changed following the finding that someone else had registered that trademark. Rudolf Bürger
Rudolf Bürger (31 October 1908 – 20 January 1980) was a Romanian international footballer and coach of German ethnicity in the 1920s and 1930s who is one of a few men who participated in each of the three pre-War FIFA World Cups. Bürger played football for Ripensia Timişoara, the first professional team in Romania which came to prominence after 1932 under the direction of Rudolf Wetzer and was strong in the 1930s. Wetzer was both captain and coach of the Romanian national team at the 1930 World Cup. Bürger did not play in the 2nd World Cup but made appearances in both the first and third editions of the competition. Vilmos Zombori
Vilmos Zombori (11 January 1906 in Temesvár, Austria-Hungary (now Romania) – 17 January 1993) was a Romanian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was also known as William Zombory. Biography At club level, he spent his career in Liga I with Chinezul Timișoara and Ripensia Timișoara. With the Romania national football team, he was picked by joint coaches Josef Uridil and Costel Rădulescu to play in the 1934 World Cup in Italy. During this competition, the team were eliminated in the first round, after a 2–1 defeat to Czechoslovakia. Record As of 5 September 2010, he holds the record for the most goals scored by a goalkeeper in the Romanian First League, with a total of 5. Gheorghe Ciolac
Gheorghe Ciolac (10 August 1908 – 13 April 1965) was a Romanian association football striker. He was a member of the Romania national football team which competed at the 1934 FIFA World Cup, but did not play any match. Club career After playing as a youth for Politehnica Timișoara between 1922 and 1924, Gheorghe Ciolac started his senior career at Banatul, another team from Timișoara. He played for this team until 1930, when he moved to Ripensia Timișoara. Gheorghe Ciolac was the captain of the team which won, between 1932 and 1938, four Divizia A titles and two Romanian Cups. He made his debut in the first tier of Romanian football on 11 September 1932, in a match between his team and CFR București. Ciolac scored the winning goal for Ripensia Timișoara in the first Romanian Cup final, but the match was contested by Ripensia's opponents, Universitatea Cluj, which asked for playing the match on a neutral stadium. Iuliu Bodola
Iuliu Bodola ( hu, Bodola Gyula; 26 February 1912 – 12 March 1993) was a Romanian- Hungarian association football striker who played internationally both for Romania and Hungary. His nickname was ''Duduş''/''Dudus''. He is Romania's third all-time top goalscorer, and he is also the all-time top goal scorer of the Balkan Cup. Club career Bodola started his career in 1929 (aged 17) for Clubul Atletic Oradea, before joining Venus București, with whom he was the champion of Romania in 1938–39 and 1939–40. When Northern Transylvania became part of the Kingdom of Hungary in August 1940, he preferred to play for Nagyváradi AC, and with them he was champion of Hungary in 1943–44. After the end of the war, he returned to Romania (Ferar Cluj-Napoca), but in 1946 he left again for Hungary ( MTK), where he lived in Budapest until the end of his life. AMEF Arad
Vagonul Arad was a football club based in Arad, Romania. It was founded in 1911 and it soon became one of the best teams from Arad. It was affiliated to Astra Arad rail equipment manufacturing company. It was dissolved in 2006. History 1911–1948 The club was formed in Arad in 1911 when ''AMEF'' ''(Asociația Muncitorilor pentru Educație Fizică)'' (Workers Association for Physical Education) merged with ''Clubul Sportiv Al Fabricii De Vagoane'' (Rail Cars Factory Sports Club), keeping the first ones name until 1948. After World War I it qualified for the national championship 3 times, but never being able to pass the semi-finals. During 1932-1940 we see the club playing in Liga I, their best performance - 2nd place at the end of the 1935-36 season.
