The president of Chile ( es, Presidente de Chile), officially known as the President of the Republic of Chile ( es, Presidente de la República de Chile), is the head of state and head of government of the Republic of Chile. The president is responsible for both the Government of Chile and state administration. Although its role and significance has changed over the history of Chile, as well as its position and relations with other actors in the national political organization, it is one of the most prominent political offices. Klaus Junge
Klaus Junge (1 January 1924 – 17 April 1945) was one of the youngest Chilean-German chess masters. In several tournaments during the 1940s he held his own among the world's leading players. An officer in the Wehrmacht, he died during the Battle of Welle shortly before the end of World War II. Biography Junge was born into a German Chilean family. His father Otto was a strong chess player who won the Chilean Chess Championship in 1922. In 1928 his parents and their five sons returned to Germany. On 11–20 August 1939, he, along with Wolfgang Unzicker (14 years old), Edith Keller (17), Rudolf Kunath (15) and Karl Krbavic (17), played in Fürstenwalde (''Jugendschachwoche'') near Berlin. In 1941, at the age of 17, Klaus Junge was considered one of the strongest players in Germany. In 1941, he won the championship of Hamburg. Vicente Sota
Vicente Agustín Sota Barros (24 April 1924 – 16 August 2017) was a Chilean politician. He served two stints in the Chamber of Deputies, first from 1965 to 1969 and again from 1990 to 1998. Career Born in Talca on 28 April 1924, he earned a degree in industrial engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Sota joined the National Falange in 1940, and upon the party's dissolution in 1957, became a member of the Christian Democratic Party. While affiliated with the PDC, Sota served in the Chamber of Deputies as a representative of central Santiago between 1965 and 1969. Shortly after the end of his first term in office, Sota cofounded the Popular Unitary Action Movement. Sota left Chile for France after the 1973 Chilean coup d'état, where he spent thirteen years until returning to Chile in March 1986. The next year, Sota co-founded the Party for Democracy. Daniel Emilfork
Daniel Emilfork (7 April 1924 – 17 October 2006) was a Chilean stage and film actor who made his career in France. Biography Emilfork was born in San Felipe, Chile after his Jewish socialist parents from Kiev fled a pogrom in Odessa. At age 25, he left Chile and settled in France, because, according to his friend Alejandro Jodorowsky, he didn't feel comfortable being a homosexual man in Chile. Emilfork's face was out of the norm and had made him a choice character actor for films such as ''The City of Lost Children'' (1995). He specialized in roles of villains. Previously he had played in ''The Devil's Nightmare'' (1971), ''Travels with My Aunt'' (1972) and ''Fellini's Casanova'' (1976), in Roman Polanski's ''Pirates'' (1986) and in '' Taxandria'' (1994). Mercedes Valdivieso (March 1, 1924 – August 3, 1993) was a Chilean writer, known since her earliest writings for the subversive nature of her texts. She was born in Santiago, Chile. She first wrote ''La Brecha'' (''Breakthrough'') in 1961, which is considered to be a landmark feminist Latin-American novel. This novel caused dismay from the reactionary segment of society and loud applause from the critics and is considered a revolutionary departure from the traditional treatment of the feminine role in marriage. ''Breakthrough'' is a novel that ends with the heroine's awareness that she didn't really need to depend upon a man in order to lead a fulfilling life. The book enjoyed an unexpected publishing success and went through five consecutive editions. Arturo Fortunato Alessandri Palma (; December 20, 1868 – August 24, 1950) was a Chilean political figure and reformer who served thrice as president of Chile, first from 1920 to 1924, then from March to October 1925, and finally from 1932 to 1938.
