1913–14 Stoke F.C. Season
The 1913–14 season was Stoke's fifth season in the Southern Football League. Stoke were now back in the poor quality Southern League Division Two and expectations were to gain an instant return to Division One. Stoke started the season well winning nine games in a row, however the team ran into poor form in the new year and ended up finishing 5th, 11 points from promotion. It was a bad performance and in April 1914 both chairman Mr Rev. A Hurst and manager Alfred Barker stepped down. Season review League Division Two of the Southern League for the 1913–14 season was made up of selection of poor Welsh clubs and a smattering of sides from around the London area, namely Luton Town, Brentford and Croydon Common. There was no money available, meaning the club had to rely on free transfers. Tom Revill
Thomas Frederick Revill (9 May 1892 – 29 March 1979) was an English cricketer and footballer. Football career He began with youth sides in his native Bolsover before joining Chesterfield in 1911. He scored 19 goals in 17 Midland League games for Chesterfield, and was transferred to Stoke for £200 in February 1912. He returned to Bolsover in 1914 to play for the local colliery team and turned out with Chesterfield as a war guest during the 1915–16 and 1916–17 seasons. He made 74 appearances for Stoke scoring 24 goals. Cricket career Revill was born at Bolsover, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire against Somerset in July 1913 and played one more match that season. After World War I he returned to Derbyshire for eight matches in 1919 and made his top score of 65 not out against Northamptonshire. He played just one game in 1920. Ton Pentre () is a village in the Rhondda Valley in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Historically part of Glamorgan, Ton Pentre, a former industrial coal mining village, is a district of the community of Pentre. The old district of Ystradyfodwg was named after the church at Ton Pentre. Ton Pentre is, perhaps, best known for an event in 1924, when the Duke of York (later George VI of the United Kingdom) played a round of golf with Trade Unionist Frank Hodges. Early and industrial history One of the earliest recorded settlements in Ton Pentre is an Iron Age hillfort located at Maindy Camp. Although initially believed to have been from the Bronze Age, the camp was misidentified due to items from a Bronze Age cairn that were found inside the camp perimeter. Tonypandy
Tonypandy is a town, community and electoral ward located in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan, Wales, lying in the Rhondda Fawr Valley. A former industrial coal mining town, the town was the scene of the 1910 Tonypandy riots. The community boundaries of Tonypandy are drawn relatively tightly around the central part of the urban area. According to the 2011 UK Census, the population of the community was 3,750. The Office for National Statistics defines a larger "Tonypandy built-up area" covering much of the Rhondda Fawr valley and the lower Rhondda Fach valley, which had a population of 62,545 in 2011. Croydon Common Athletic Ground, commonly referred to as the Nest, was a association football, football stadium in Selhurst, south London. The original occupiers of the ground were Croydon Common F.C., the Robins, who occupied it from 1908 to 1917. It was also the home ground of Crystal Palace F.C. from 1918 until 1924. The Nest was subleased from the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, the parties being The Croydon Common Football and Athletic Company Limited and then Crystal Palace Football and Athletic Club, The London Brighton and South Coast Railway Company and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England.
