1913 LSU Tigers Football Team
The 1913 LSU Tigers football team represented the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University during the 1913 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The team was captained by center Tom Dutton. At guards were T. R. Mobley and Arthur Klock. In the backfield was quarterback Lawrence Dupont and fullback Alf Reid. Dupont had 15 touchdowns in 1913, four of them coming on November 22 in a game against rival Tulane in a 40–0 victory. Coach Pat Dwyer used Dutton for a "kangaroo play" in which Dupont would crawl between Dutton's legs; supposedly very effective in short yardage situations. James K. "Pat" Dwyer (August 30, 1884 – March 29, 1939) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at Louisiana State University (1911–1913) and the University of Toledo (1923–1925), compiling a career record of 28–22–2. Playing career Dwyer was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He lettered in football two seasons, 1906 and 1907, for Penn under coach Carl Sheldon Williams. In 1906, Dwyer helped the Quakers to a 7–2–3 record. In 1907, Penn went 11–1, and was retroactively awarded a national championship by Parke H. Davis with other organizations naming Yale as champion. The 1913 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 1913 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The Tigers were retroactively recognized as a national champion by the Billingsley Report's alternative calculation which considers teams' margin of victory. The team was coached by Mike Donahue and was undefeated at 8–0, outscoring opponents 224–13. Auburn was the champion of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The team played just two games at home. Under Billingsley's primary methodology, Chicago was recognized as the national champion.
