1910 Queensland Rugby League Season
“The Queensland Amateur Rugby League set the air-filled sphere rolling”, opening the competition rounds on 14 May. Three grade competitions were conducted in Brisbane. Ipswich entered a representative team to play the five Brisbane senior teams and also began their own club competition. Club-level rugby league was also played in Maryborough. Queensland hosted tours from England and New South Wales and representative matches were also arranged between towns where rugby league was growing. Season summary Senior Grade Six teams competed for the QARL Senior premiership and Francis Cup. East Brisbane and Ipswich joined North Brisbane, South Brisbane, Toombul and Valley. Two “rounds” of matches were played. After the first round of five matches each, Toombul led. At the completion of the second round, Ipswich were ahead on points. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views". As the rough river town turned into a respectable city, its newspaper became a bi-weekly in 1864, a tri-weekly in 1868 and a daily in 1882. The ''NewsMail'' is an online newspaper based in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. It has a wide range of content including domestic and international affairs. The paper has a long, notable history, starting as a family business and more recently becoming part of the regional network of News Corp Australia, the largest Australian newspaper publisher. It shut down its printed edition and became online-only in June 2020. History Thomas White, the founder of NewsMail, first named the newspaper the ''Burnett Argus'' in 1861. Herbert Leslie Brackenreg (1876–1939) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. Playing career In 1907 he played for New South Wales in the very first rugby match run by the newly created 'New South Wales Rugby Football League' which had just split away from the established New South Wales Rugby Football Union. He also played for Sydney's Eastern suburbs club in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership's inaugural season – 1908. A goal-kicking front row forward, Brackenreg, played rugby league for the Eastern Suburbs club. An Eastern Suburbs rugby union player, Brackenreg had been a member of the rebel New South Wales sides that played against the rebel New Zealand 'All Blacks' in the 1907 series that helped to establish rugby league in Australia. Bill Heidke
Wilhelm Gustaf "Bill" Heidke (1883–1959) was a pioneer Australian rugby league player. He was a backline player for the Australian national team. He played in four Tests between 1908 and 1910, once as captain. Rugby union career Heidke grew up in Bundaberg in the Wide Bay – Burnett region of Queensland where he played rugby union. Dugald McGregor
Dugald "Doug" McGregor (1890-1948) was a pioneering rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s from Queensland. An Australia national representative , he also played for both the Queensland and New South Wales teams. Playing career McGregor played in Brisbane for the Fortitude Valley club. During the 1909 New Zealand rugby league tour of Australia, when the Kiwis traveled to Brisbane for a Test match against Australia, McGregor was selected to play at fullback, becoming Kanagroo No. 46. In doing so he also set the record for the youngest player for Australia at 19 years and 5 days. When the New Zealand Māori rugby league team toured that year, McGregor played at fullback against them for Queensland as well as Australia. Bob Tubman
Robert Tubman (6 June 1884 – 17 December 1956) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer, one of his country's first selected national representatives. Playing career Tubman was a registered rugby union player in Queensland in 1908 at the time of the rugby league code's inaugural competition year in Australia. He was selected in the first ever Queensland Maroons state representative side to play the new "Northern Union" style of rugby, taking on Albert Baskerville's New Zealand All Golds on their inaugural tour. He would go to make fourteen state appearances over the next three years against New Zealand, New South Wales, Great Britain and the New Zealand Māori rugby league team. The Queensland Rugby Football League QRL Constitution, 2009: 3 (QRL QRL Constitution, 2009: 2) is the governing body for rugby league in Queensland. It is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL Commission) and selects the members of the Queensland rugby league team.
