1907 German Football Championship
The 1907 German football championship was the fifth season in which teams competed for the national championship title. Six teams qualified to reach the final stages of the competition, and the winners were Freiburger FC, defeating Viktoria 89 Berlin 3–1 in the final. For Freiburger FC it was the sole appearance in the German championship final. Viktoria 89 Berlin made its first of four final appearances in 1907, going on to win the 1908 and 1911 championships as well as losing the 1909 final in between. Viktoria's Helmut Röpnack and Freiburg's Phillip Burkart were the top scorers of the 1907 championship with four goals each. Six clubs qualified for the competition played in knock-out format, the champions of each of the six regional football championships. Viktoria (trophy)
The Viktoria, formerly spelled ''Victoria'', is a German association football trophy which was awarded to the List of German football champions, German champions from 1903 German football championship, 1903 to 1944 German football championship, 1944. It is modelled on Victoria (mythology), Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, winged and flinging a wreath. Thus it is the smaller reproduction of a life size sculpture to be found in Berlin, Berlin's Alte Nationalgalerie, Old National Gallery. Western German Football Championship
The Western German football championship (German: ''Westdeutsche Fußball Meisterschaft'') was the highest association football competition in Western Germany, in the Prussian Province of Westphalia, the Rhine Province, the northern parts of the province of Hesse-Nassau as well as the Principality of Lippe, later to become the Free State of Lippe. The competition was disbanded in 1933 with the rise of the Nazis to power. It is not to be confused with the German championship in what was commonly referred to as West Germany from 1949 to 1990. Overview German football was, from its beginnings, divided into regional associations, which carried out their own championship, which often pre-dated the national German championship. ''Kicker'' (stylized in all lowercase) is Germany's leading sports magazine, focused primarily on Association football, football. The magazine was founded in 1920 by German football pioneer Walther Bensemann and is published twice weekly, usually Monday and Thursday. Each edition sells around 80,000 copies. ''Kicker'' is a founding member of European Sports Media, an association of football publications. ''Kicker'' annually awards the most prolific scorer of the Bundesliga with the ''Kicker Torjägerkanone'' () award. It is equivalent to the Pichichi Trophy in Spanish football. Frankenthal
Frankenthal (Pfalz) ( pfl, Frongedahl) is a town in southwestern Germany, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. History Frankenthal was first mentioned in 772. In 1119 an Augustinian monastery was built here, the ruins of which — known, after the founder, as the ''Erkenbertruine'' — still stand today in the town centre. In the second half of the 16th century, people from Flanders, persecuted for their religious beliefs, settled in Frankenthal. They were industrious and artistic and brought economic prosperity to the town.
