1906 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skating, figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Men's competition took place on February 4 in Munich, German Empire. Ulrich Salchow did not participate because he feared that the judgement would not be fair in Gilber Fuchs' hometown Munich. Ladies' competition took place from January 28th to 29th in Davos, Switzerland. It was the first World Championships in figure skating for ladies. Results Men Judges: * C. Dorothy Greenhough-Smith
Dorothy Greenhough-Smith (27 September 1882 – 9 May 1965) was a British figure skater. She was born Dorothy Vernon Muddock in Stokesley, North Riding of Yorkshire, the daughter of writer James Edward Preston Muddock, and married publisher/editor Herbert Greenhough Smithhis Times obituary mentions her skating prowess in 1900. Greenhough-Smith won the bronze medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics, the first Olympics where figure skating was contested. Elsa Rendschmidt
Elsa Rendschmidt (11 January 1886 – 9 October 1969) was a German figure skater and the first German woman to compete and win a medal at the Olympic Games. Rendschmidt won the silver medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics, the first Olympics to include a ladies' figure skating event. She competed in the first ladies' German nationals, which took place in 1911. She skated for the Berliner Schlittschuhclub and won the event, becoming Germany's first ladies' champion. She also competed at the World Championships several times. Her best finish was 2nd (in 1908 and 1910).
