1905 Ontario General Election
The 1905 Ontario general election was the 11th general election held in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on January 25, 1905, to elect the 98 Members of the 11th Legislative Assembly of Ontario ("MLAs"). The Ontario Conservative Party, led by Sir James P. Whitney, defeated the Ontario Liberal Party, led by Sir George William Ross, bringing to an end the control of the government that the Liberal Party had exercised power for the previous 34 years. 11th Legislative Assembly Of Ontario
The 11th Legislative Assembly of Ontario was in session from January 25, 1905, until May 2, 1908, just prior to the 1908 general election. The majority party was the Ontario Conservative Party led by Sir James P. Whitney. The Commissioner of Crown Lands became the Minister of Lands, Forests and Mines. The Commissioner of Public Works became the Minister of Public Works. Ontario (provincial Electoral District)
Ontario was a provincial riding in the Canadian province of Ontario. Called Ontario South until 1933, it was active from 1867 to 1975. For its entire existence, the riding contained parts of or all of Ontario County, a now-defunct county which comprised most, but not all, of the contemporary Regional Municipality of Durham, including the municipalities of Ajax, Oshawa, Pickering and Whitby. After 1955, however, a separate riding called Oshawa was created to serve the city of Oshawa, Ajax and parts of Pickering and Whitby, while the Ontario riding continued to serve the more rural areas in the county. In 1966 a new Ontario South was created to represent Ajax, Pickering and Whitby. Due to population growth, the district of Nipissing (provincial electoral district), Nipissing was divided into Nipissing West and Nipissing East for the 1902 Ontario general election, 1902 election. By 1908, however, the town of Greater Sudbury, Sudbury had grown enough to warrant its own electoral district.
