1896 VFA Season
The 1896 Victorian Football Association season was the 20th season of the Australian rules football competition. It was the final season in which the Association was the highest level of senior football competition in Victoria, with eight of its strongest members leaving the league and establishing the rival Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League from 1897. The season was opened on 2 May, and concluded on 3 October with a playoff match for the premiership between the top two teams, in which defeated by one goal. The 1895 Victorian Football Association season was the 19th season of the Australian rules football competition. The season was opened on 4 May, and concluded on 21 September. won the premiership by six points, with a record of 12 wins, 5 draws and one loss. It was Fitzroy's first VFA premiership. Mick Pleass
George Victor "Mick" Pleass (12 November 1874 – 27 August 1925) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne and Essendon in the VFA and Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Pleass was a follower and played his early football at South Melbourne when they were in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). He participated in their inaugural VFL match and remained with the club until 1904 when he crossed to Essendon, after his transfer to play for Boulder in the Western Australian Goldfields was refused. During his career he represented Victoria at interstate football on three occasions. Jack Adamson
John Henry Adamson (6 January 1873 – 2 October 1937) was an Australian rules footballer who played three games for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League between 1897 and 1898. He was the brother of South Melbourne captain Dave Adamson. Educated at Albert Park State School, Adamson played for Napier Imperial, the South Melbourne junior side in the Metropolitan Junior Football Association, before graduating to play with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association from 1893 to 1896. A forward, he was described as being an excellent place kick. Adamson won South Melbourne's VFA goal kicking in 1896. He made his VFL debut with South Melbourne in round one of 1897, alongside his brother, Dave. Adamson was also a noted cricketer; he was a wicketkeeper who played 6 first eleven games for South Melbourne. Dinny McKay
Denis "Dinny" McKay (23 November 1867 – 17 August 1897) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and Victorian Football League (VFL). He played with Richmond in 1892 and 1893, but otherwise was with South Melbourne until their final VFA season in 1896. His sudden death during the 1897 VFL season was considered a severe loss to football. Career VFA years Born in 1867, McKay played originally for the South Ballarat Football Club. He began at South Melbourne in 1886 and became a leading member of the team. Regarded as one of the best all-round players in the colony, McKay was a regular Victorian representative in intercolonial matches. Frank Hailwood
Frank Hailwood (3 April 1873 – 21 May 1944) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family One of the eight children of Joseph Hailwood (1834–1912), and Ellen Hailwood (1839-1916), née Connor, Francis Hailwood was born at Alexandra, Victoria on 3 April 1873. Harry Dowdall
Henry Arthur 'Harry' Dowdall (29 June 1872 – 9 May 1912) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the 1897 inaugural Victorian Football League (VFL) season. Dick Condon
Richard Condon (19 March 1876 – 27 December 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood and Richmond in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1894-1900, 1902-1906 and 1908-1909. Talent Condon was a highly skilled player, a wiry and tenacious man of greater than average height (5'11"; 180 cm), with great speed, brilliant evasive skills, and an outstanding capacity for reading a game. He played mainly as a "follower". Eaglehawk Football Club
The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Eaglehawk, Victoria and have competed in every BFL season since the league began in 1880, with the exception of 1904. Eaglehawk teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL). Eaglehawk drew level with Sandhurst in 2007 when they won their 26th premiership. The Bendigo Football Netball League (previously known as the Sandhurst Football Association, Bendigo and District Football Association, Bendigo Football Association and Bendigo Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Bendigo region of Victoria (Australia), Victoria.
