Maria Jansson, known in history as ''Kisamor'' (English: The Mother of Kisa), (30 July 1788 – 27 February 1842), was a Sweden, Swedish natural Physician, doctor, one of the most notable and well-known of 19th-century physicians in Sweden. She is also a prominent example of a Cunning folk, cunning woman in her country. Her name is Maria Jansson, but she is known in history as Kisamor ("Mother from Kisa") after the place where she worked. Biography Born in Örebro as the daughter of a healer in natural medicine, she had an early wish to follow in her father's profession. She was active as a natural healer occasionally from early years, but eventually, her father forced her to marry a farmer, Anders Olsson, in 1807. The marriage was unhappy and childless, and she divorced her husband in 1819. By this time, she functioned as a doctor in natural medicine, and made a living visiting and nursing people. Maria Ribbing
Augusta Maria Aurora Ribbing née de Vylder (1842–1910) was a Swedish schoolteacher and philanthropist. In addition to her contributions to teaching, she provided funding for social support, including Sweden's first old peoples home which opened in 1915. Biography Born in Stockholm on 8 June 1842, Ribbing was the daughter of the language teacher Louis De Vylder and his wife Maria Christina Ahlborg. When she was 17, she embarked on a teacher training course, the '' Lärokurs för fruntimmer'' in Stockholm. On graduating, she taught at the Normal School for girls until 1871 when she married the physician Seved Ribbing. After a year-long study trip around Europe, they settled in Simrishamn in southern Sweden but later moved to Lund. The couple welcomed people from all walks of life to their spacious home known as Spoletorp. Carl David Af Wirsén
Carl David af Wirsén (9 December 1842 – 12 June 1912) was a Swedish poet, literary critic and the Swedish Academy's permanent secretary 1884–1912. Career Wirsén was born in Vallentuna, Uppland, to Karl Ture af Wirsén and Eleonore von Schulzenheim. He was also for several years, in company with the historian Hans Forssell, editor of the ''Swedish Literary Review''. In 1870, he became a lecturer in Swedish and Latin at Katedralskolan in Uppsala. In 1876 he moved to Gothenburg, where he lectured and took care of the museum's library and art collections. In 1879 he succeeded Carl Wilhelm Böttiger to the seat 8 of the Swedish Academy, and moved the year after to Stockholm, where he became literary reviewer for the ''Post- och Inrikes Tidningar'', and in 1886 also for the magazine Vårt Land. Prof Magnus Gustaf (or Gustav) Retzius FRSFor HFRSE MSA (17 October 1842 – 21 July 1919) was a Swedish physician and anatomist who dedicated a large part of his life to researching the histology of the sense organs and nervous system. Life Retzius was born in Stockholm, son of the anatomist Anders Retzius (and grandson of the naturalist and chemist Anders Jahan Retzius). Maria Helena Stenkula (22 July 1842 – 8 February 1932) was a Swedish reform pedagogue and pioneer on women's education. She was regarded as a local pioneer of women's education in Malmö, Sweden. She was the founder and manager of the Malmö High School for Girls ('' Malmö högre läroverk för flickor'') from 1874 until 1899. Biography Maria Stenkula was the daughter of physician Zacharias Fredrik Agathon Stenkula and Hedvig Margareta Maria Borg.
