Christian VII Of Denmark
Christian VII (29 January 1749 – 13 March 1808) was a monarch of the House of Oldenburg who was King of Denmark–Norway and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein from 1766 until his death in 1808. For his motto he chose: "''Gloria ex amore patriae''" ("Glory through love of the fatherland"). Christian VII's reign was marked by mental illness and for most of his reign, Christian was only nominally king. His royal advisers changed depending on who won power struggles around the throne. From 1770 to 1772, his court physician Johann Friedrich Struensee was the ''de facto'' ruler of the country and introduced progressive reforms signed into law by Christian VII. Struensee was deposed by a coup in 1772, after which the country was ruled by Christian's stepmother, Juliane Marie of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, his half-brother Frederick, and the Danish politician Ove Høegh-Guldberg. Christian Günther Von Bernstorff
Count Christian Günther von Bernstorff (german: Christian Günther Graf von Bernstorff; 3 April 1769 – 18 March 1835) was a Danish and Prussian statesman and diplomat. Early life and career He was born in Copenhagen on 3 April 1769 to Count Andreas Peter von Bernstorff. He was educated for the diplomatic service under his father's direction. He began his career in 1787, as attaché to the representative of Denmark at the opening of the Diet of Sweden. In 1789, he went as secretary of legation to Berlin, where his maternal uncle, Count Leopold Friedrich zu Stolberg, was Danish ambassador. His uncle's influence, as well as his own social qualities, obtained him rapid promotion; he was soon chargé d'affaires, and in 1791 minister plenipotentiary. In 1794, he exchanged this post for the important one of ambassador at Stockholm, where he remained until May 1797, when he was summoned to Copenhagen to act as substitute for his father during his illness. John Christmas (naval Officer)
John Christmas (3 February 1799 – 3 November 1873) was a Danish naval officer who later settled as a plantation owner on Saint Croix in the Danish West Indies. In 1871, he briefly served as acting Governor-General of the Danish West Indies. He was the paternal grandfather of writer Walter Christmas. Early life and education Christmas was born on 3 February 1799 in Copenhagen, the son of ship captain and general trader John Christmas and Johanne Maria Heinrich (1771–1808). His parents were divorced in 1803. His maternal grandfather was Johan Friedrich Heinrich. Career Christmas became a cadet in 1813, a junior lieutenant in 1820, a senior lieutenant in 1827, captain lieutenant in 1840, captain in 1847 and commodore in 1852. In 1821–22, he was with the corvette ''Diana'' in the Danish West Indies. Henrik Nikolai Krøyer
Henrik Nikolai Krøyer (22 March 1799 – 14 November 1870) was a Denmark, Danish zoologist. Born in Copenhagen, he was a brother of the composer Hans Ernst Krøyer. He started studying medicine at the University of Copenhagen in 1817, which he later changed to history and philology. While a student, he was a supporter of the Philhellenism, Philhellenic movement, and he participated as a volunteer in the Greek War of Independence along with several fellow students. Upon his return to Denmark, Krøyer gained an interest in zoology. In 1827, he took the position as assistant teacher in Stavanger, where he met, and later married, Bertha Cecilie Gjesdal. Bertha's sister, Ellen Cecilie Gjesdal, was deemed unfit to bring up her child, so Henrik and Bertha adopted the boy, who took on the name Peder Severin Krøyer, and later became a well-known painter. Emilius Ditlev Bærentzen, usually known as Emil Bærentzen (30 October 1799 – 14 February 1868) was a Danish portrait painter and lithographer, active during the Golden Age of Danish Painting. He founded Em. Bærentzen & Co. Biography Born in Copenhagen on 30 October 1799, Bærentzen served an apprenticeship at the pharmacy in Nykøbing Sjælland but then travelled to Christiansted on the then Danish island of St. Croix in the West Indies where he worked in one of the government offices. Five years later he returned to Denmark and, after qualifying as a lawyer, moved into painting which until then he had practiced as a hobby. In 1821, he entered the Danish Academy where he studied under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg. He was awarded the little silver medal in 1826 and the large silver medal the following year.
